EDITOR PICKS: TOP 10 MOONCAKES IN KLANG VALLEY (2015)

Are you a mooncake fans? or still thinking which mooncake to go for this year. Since the celebration will be held in 27 September 2015, it is time to grab your mooncake to celebrate the upcoming Mooncake Festival. Who FARES Malaysianfoodie Top 10 Mooncakes this year.

1) SHANGRI-LA KUALA LUMPUR
1
Not just bringing you the beautiful packaging this year, the mooncake in Shangri-La had not disappoint us in terms of taste and packaging. They come out with the their 4 new mooncakes which is the Yam lotus seed paste with single yolk, Shanghai pandan lotus seed paste with single yolk . Mini ping pei black sesame seed with yolk and the Mini ping pei chocolate with almond and hazelnut.

RECOMMENDATION

Assorted Nut and Sun Dried Fruits, White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk, Snow Skin Durian Mooncake, Shanghai Pandan Lotus Seed Paste with Single Yolk.

2) HILTON KUALA LUMPUR

Hilton KL brings you with their signature mooncake which includes the a nice packaging. Not just alike a jewellery box, but it brings you with the gracious look with the bright red packaging or the LIMITED edition pink box.

RECOMMENDATION
Fiery Phoenix, Blue Moon, and Heavenly Gold.

3) MANDARIN ORIENTAL
LAI POH HEEN , MANDARIN ORIENTAL
Mandarin Oriental brings you with ther wide choice of classic all-times favourites, the new snow skin flavours or the sinful chocolate mooncakes. Lai Po Heen mooncakes are priced between RM20 to RM48.

RECOMMENDATION
Creamy Milk Tea Paste (RM 30), Bird’s nest with Pandan Paste (RM 38), Chocolate Palette d’or with salted caramel, bourbon vanilla and Guanaja ganache (RM 23) and the Chocolate Kaya and ivory filling (RM 23) and the Gold Coated Lotus Paste and Single Egg Yolk (RM 48)

4) SHANGHAI RESTAURANT
SHANGHAI MOONCAKE
Simple box in red with the named – Shanghai where you can have the indulgence of their mini mooncakes. The mooncake made in house with the touch of the heart of the chef. They have a created 2 unique mooncake this year which is not to be missed.

RECOMMENDATION
“Snow Skin Fermented Black Garlic with Egg Yolk” and “Snow Skin Durian Paste with Truffle”.

5) INTERCONTINENTAL KL
INTERCONTINANTAL MOONCAKE
Butterflies every where you can have the myriad colour of mooncake to choose from bamboo charcoal skin with assorted nuts(RM32), Scarlet Snow Skin (RM30) , Mini Peanut Butter Snow Skin with Japanese Purple Potato Paste and Yam Omachi and more. A variety of unique flavours not to be missed.

RECOMMENDATION
Mini Peanut Butter Snow Skin with Japanese Purple Potato Paste and Yam OmachI, Scarlet Snow Skin, Bamboo charcoal skin with assorted nuts(RM32) and Red Prawn Mooncake

6) RENAISANCE KUALA LUMPUR

Bringing you with the elegant packaging of mooncake and it is indeed beautiful presented with the pull out box with a hand-fan at the top. Nice and pretty unique for this round. They comes with over 8 choices of mooncakes inclusive of baked and snow skin.

RECOMMENDATION
Baked Assorted Nuts & Seeds, Baked Green Tea Black Sesame Paste and Snow Skin Ginseng Paste.

7) CONCORDE KUALA LUMPUR

CONCORDE KL MOONCAKE
Famed for its unique and creative packaging, I am always in love with it. Last year, the lantern had captured my heart and this year they comes out with the beautiful jar. They have a variety of mooncakes to go for and only 2 snow skin mooncake which both are durian mooncake- either the Musang King or the D24 durian.

RECOMMENDATION
The Musang King Durian

8) SAUJANA KL

Elegant packaging mooncake comes with the choice of 8 traditional mooncakes with 4 snow skin mooncake. The mooncake comes simply beautiful with 3 different shapes.

RECOMMENDATION
Musang King (RM30) & Banana chocolate snow skin (RM25)

9) STARBUCKS

Starbucks this year brings you with their signature coffee mooncake. The coffee lover would love their mooncake where they have the taste of coffee indulgence and more. Comes with 4 flavours which are the Signature Durian; 1 piece of Chewy Nutty Cranberry, Green Tea Azuki and Apricot Hazelnut Latte.

RECOMMENDATION
Signature Durian and Green Tea Azuki

10) TAI THONG
TAI THONG MOONCAKE 2015
Brings you with the fruity sensation this year, Tai Thong is famed for their mooncake wth the unique flavours. Tai Thong this year comes with four new flavours which is the Blueberry Lotus with Dried Fruits and Assorted Seeds, Orange Lotus with Palm Sugar and Assorted Seeds, Snow Skin Mango Kiwi with Assorted Dried Fruits, and the Snow Skin Pineapple Lotus with Jackfruit Mochi.Not to be missed is of course their SIGNATURE Imperial Musang King Royale.

    wow~~ you have compile everything! I tried the starbuck before, their Chewy Nutty Cranberry really nice! I would go for this, since it can buy in any starbucks outlet. haha

    The blue mooncake is very eye-catching. I wonder how it tastes like. I love to collect mooncake packaging and reuse them to keep my small stuff. Very colourful and fresh.

    The mooncakes look gorgeous! I usually like the lotus seed ones. Love the Shangri-La packaging. I only realized realized how expensive they are this year!

      Yes, it what you want. Sometimes the ok mooncake is also around that price. Now mooncake is not cheap.
