A CHILLI SAUCE THAT PACKS A PUNCH!

December 20, 2013 by StrawberrY Gal

With a recipe that has rightly remained unchanged for over 100 years, Lingham’s Chilli Sauce has a fine story…and here are some of them

Ø  A mild piquant relish and appetizer of delightful flavour’ is how best to describe Lingham’s iconic chilli sauce. It contains just four ingredients: chillies, sugar, vinegar and salt. And that’s it, glorious in its simplicity.

Ø  There are no additives, no preservatives, no bulking agents, flavour enhancers, emulsifiers or other such nasties. It is a wonderful example of what can be done with a short list of first-rate ingredients.

Ø  Originally created to satisfy the curiosity of Colonial Brits, it is now shipped all over the world so that people in all corners of the globe can enjoy its unique flavour.

Ø  Despite its popularity, it is still manufactured by the same company in Malaysia, Lingham & Son (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd who pride themselves on the quality of their product and the purity of its ingredients.
Ø  On top of the original recipe, Lingham’s sauces come in the Garlic, Ginger, Ginger Garlic, Thai and Sriracha variant. These new variants also use 100% red chillies and natural ingredients and are Halal, Kosher and Vegetarian Society certified.

Ø  Lingham’s Chilli Sauce was the first Malaysian brand to be sold at the prestigious Harrods of London, the world’s most famous luxury department store.

Ø  Lingham’s Chilli Sauce was sufficiently successful that when Queen Elizabeth II visited Malaysia in 1972, she stopped by to visit the company’s booth at an exhibition at Dewan Seri Penang on March 8 and was presented with a carved wooden box containing bottles of Lingham’s.

Ø  After a hard day’s patrol, British soldiers in Afghanistan eagerly look forward to their tea and their favourite bottle of sauce. Mind you, it’s not Lea & Perrins’ Worcestershire we’re talking about. It’s Lingham’s, “the world’s finest multi-use condiment”.

Ø  Lingham’s Chilli Sauce doesn’t have the intense sweetness of Thai varieties, nor the occasionally oppressive garlic tang. It is mild enough to be enjoyed on its own as a dip but has enough bite to pep up dishes to a satisfyingly warm level.

Ø  The sauce is also wonderfully versatile. You can stir it into ketchup and pour it over chips or use it is a marinade for chicken or fish. Dribbled over falafel or kebabs it adds a delicious heat. You can even add it to salad dressings to complement a cooling bowl of lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber.

…..It is this versatility and downright tastiness that makes Lingham’s Chilli Sauce a top-notch hot sauce and a permanent fixture in one’s store cupboard!
