January 13, 2013 By StrawberrY Gal - Food Review, Invited Review Leave a Comment

Chinese New Year, known as the Lunar New Year is one of the most important in the traditional Chinese Holidays and it is signifying the beginning of springs. During the festive celebration, why not enjoy your reunion dinner with family a Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant in Hilton Petaling Jaya. In Hilton PJ, there are 4 menus will be available from RM 988++ onwards.

– The Deluxe Salmon and Seaweed with Mixed Fruit “Yee Sang”-

– The Deluxe Salmon and Seaweed with Mixed Fruit “Yee Sang”-

Toss for good luck, health as well as prosperity this year with the Master Chef’s Lee concoctions of Yee Sang with the assorted fresh fruits. The Deluxe Salmon and Seaweed with Mixed Fruit “Yee Sang”. The Yee Sang is simply good and delicious as well where the dish is served with fresh salmon, white radish, carrots, red pepper, lime leaves, red pickled ginger, chinese parsley, jellyfish, chopped peanuts, chinese shrimp crackers and also sesame seeds. Not only that, Toh Yuan had also added with the sliced dragon fruit together with it as well which makes the dish more appetizing. Its taste brings an appetizing and delicious combination which I totally fall in love with it.

– The Braised Baby Abalone with Dried Seafood Soup –

-The Braised Baby Abalone with Dried Seafood Soup-

We had the scrumptious healthy soup to celebrate the CNY too. The soup is being cooked with the double boiling style. The Braised Baby Abalone with Dried Seafood Soup is being cooked with fish maw (花胶), baby Abalone, Scallops and Black chicken. The soup is simply good and lovely where it is well infused with the ingredient which gives the soup a sweet taste.

– Roasted Chicken and Smoked Duck with Dragon Fruit Sauce and Vegetable Crackers-

We had the Roasted Chicken and Smoked Duck with Dragon Fruit Sauce and Vegetable Crackers. The mix of the delicious scrumptious delights is where the chicken is crispy at the outside and the meat is simply juicy at the outside. The smoked duck is well prepared where the smoked duck is well marinated with the pepper and salt and the duck is being vacuumed packed and soaked in cold water. It is then left in the water till the room temperature and once completed the smoked duck is being kept at the freeze. After that, the smoked duck is being cooked for 80 minutes which gives tender and juicy delights. I am totally falling in love with the juicy scrumptious smoked duck with the dragon fruit sauce with it.

– Deep Fried Canadian Cod Fish with Honey Sauce-
– Deep Fried Canadian Cod Fish with Honey Sauce-

Deep Fried Canadian Cod Fish with Honey Sauce is the next item which is served next. The smells of the fish can be smell afar and the dish is really good. The honey sauce which is being served on top of the deep fried Canadian cod fish is well prepared by chef with the combination of honey sauce, Kikomen Sauce, lepree sauce and also sugar. As for the fish, it is fresh and it is then being deep fried till crispiness and served with the combination of the honey sauce on top of it.

Braised Sea Cucumber with Mixed Mushrooms and Sun-dried Scallop is really good and delicious. The chef is using a high graded sea cucumber (Wu Yin Sam) which is imported from China or Philippines and then it is being slow-cooked and being cutted side ways so that the flavours are well infused with the sauce in it. The sea cucumber taste sinfully delicious and it brings a “q-q” texture which is not too soft or too hard. It is just nice with the crispy delicious mixed mushroom which is also crunchy with it. Aside that, the sauce is well blend with the dried scallops with it.

-Sautéed Fresh Sea Prawn with Wasabi Mayo and ‘Sakura Denbu’-

Sautéed Fresh Sea Prawn with Wasabi Mayo and ‘Sakura Denbu’ is a combination of the Japanese feel in it. The chef had creates a Japanese Spring feeling with using the Sakura Debu. This is where the chef had made the Sakura Denbu by using “Sekpan” fish deep fried and added with other condiments with it. The fresh prawns are also well selected by the chef where chef had chosen a bigger size prawn and it is being deep fried. Then the sauce is being added with the wasabi powder with the mayo sauce in it. Though the wasabi taste is slightly strong but we can still taste the freshness and sweetness of the prawns in it.

– Steamed Glutinous Rice with the Sun-dried Oyster, Salted Egg Yolk and Chicken Paste-

– Steamed Glutinous Rice with the Sun-dried Oyster, Salted Egg Yolk and Chicken Paste-

We finally end the main courses with the Steamed Glutinous Rice with the Sun-dried Oyster, Salted Egg Yolk and Chicken Paste. Chef had cooked the sliced chicken together with the oyster sauce, dried shrimps ( udang kering) and the salted egg yolk. Added with the condiments and the soy sauce, oyster sauce as well as dark soy sauce together, the chef also wrapped them together with the “Hor Yip” and then it is being steam. It is served with the mini size as well which looks lovely. The dish is simply good and the rice is sticky with the adequate flavors.

Not to forget, we ended our meal with the Deep Fried Chinese New Year Cake with Yam. The “Nian Gao” is homemade by the chef and it is using 12 hours effort from the chef to do the steaming. It seems like the effort of doing the “Nian Gao” is not easy and after it is done, the chef had added some powder to wrapped the “Nian Gao” and being deep fried till crispiness. The “Nian Gao” appears to be crispy at the outside and sticky in the inside. It is not too sweet but the taste is just lovely.

Not only that, we also have the Hilton Ice Cream cake where the ice cream is made from the pastry chef. Aside, the ice cream is not too sweet and just nice. It is really lovely with the three flavors with it- Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry. It is topped with the fresh Strawberry as well as a thin slice of chocolate with it.

So, why not have your table booked with Toh Yuen to enjoy the delicious Prosperity Menu and lets “HUAT” together at Hilton PJ this year.
