ALIYAA , BUKIT DAMANSARA

February 11, 2012 by StrawberrY Gal

Ever heard of ALiYaa? ALiYaa is another place for delicious authentic Sri Lankan food which is located in the residential area at Bukit Damansara. The restaurant is just a few blocks away from Aria which is serving Italian Cuisine. ALiYaa means ‘elephant’ in Singhalese which it symbolises the beauty of culinary globalisation amidst a lush backdrop of modern day eating fuelled by a constant conveyor belt of comestibles..

– The Inside View-

There is a bar inside where you may order some liquor to go with your meal. The environment is cozy as well.It is good for meals for family as well as friends.

On the table , they had recommended us with the ranges of sambol which is served here. They have Seen sambol, Pol sambol, Katta sambol, Karuvappilai sambol (curry leaves) where you can choose to have them to be served with your meals.
Price: RM 3.00/per choice

We started off our meal with some appetizers. The Fish Cutlet which is being prepared is one of the Sri Lankan delights and it is one of the favorite in parties. They are excellent appetizer where Meats are steamed into a paste of mixed flavour and spices, then breaded with toasted flakes. The texture is of the cutlet is juicy in the inside and crispy in the outside and it is well eaten with the sauces provided or their special sauce
Price: RM 15.00

Next we had the lamb roll. The lamb roll in Sri Lanka is indeed different style of presentation compared to the usual roll. The style of it is like sandwich style but is it actially the lamb roll. The lamb roll is spicy marinated meats and onions wrapped into bread and dry fried on a hot pan to seal in the flavours.
Price: RM 15.00

Here goes our main course where we are served with plenty of delighting food on the table.

Plain String Hoppers where we are being served with 2 versions which is the Seafood and the Chicken. The Kuthu which is being served is alike Putu Mayam. We do have their serving which is the Kuthu served with their Coconut sambal to try with. This is where the Spaghetti-like strings of unprocessed brown rice flour dough squeezed through a sieve onto small woven trays, which are steamed to perfection.
Price: RM 8.00

Aside, we are also being served with the String Happer Kothu Seafood where this Sri Lankan speciality is being prepared from spaghetti-like – strings of unprocessed brown rice flour dough squeezed through a sieve onto small woven trays, which are steamed to perfection. The seafood style is being fried and added with seafoods like squids and prawns on it.
Price: RM 28.00

As for the String Hopper Kothu Chicken, it is being served with minced chicken meat on it instead of the seafood.
Price: RM 18.00

Mutton Paal Poriyal is one of the top seller where the mutton is being prepared in small sizes and the the meat is tender and tasty. It is being cooked in dry gravy with lots of chillies as well as the curry leaves.
Price: RM 21.00

– Before the rice is open –

– Version 1: The ingridients in separated –

– Version 2:The ingredients is being mixed together before it takes to steam-

Next we are being served with the Lumprice Chicken. The lumprice chicken can be served in 2 different styles which you may choose to mix all the ingridient together to have them or you can have them separetly. The Lumprice Chicken is where the Oven baked rice wrapped in a banana leaf and served with devilled dish of your choice, fried egg with roasted cashew nuts and vegetables of the day.
Price: RM 24.00

Fish Sothi which is also called Chef Publis Polkiri Thiyal is also a dish not to be missed at Ali yaa. This is where the fish is being cooked in the coconut milk lemongrass, garlic, shallots and curry leaves to give mild and thin creamy curry. The curry is more flavoring on the taste of the fish and it is not milky and having too much of santan in it. It is well made with not too thick of the curry and it is nice.
Price: RM 19.00

Perhaps one dish not to be missed when you visit Aliyaa is the Sri Lankan Crabs because, it is learnt, the best quality Sri Lankan crabs are being served here. Here come the crabs, which the size is simply a huge one. The Sri Lankan crab is being prepared in 2 styles which is the Colombo Style and anotherwill be the Deviled Crab

For Spicy lover, you might fall in love with the Crab which is cooked with Colombo Styled where the Crab is prepared with the hot spicy black pepper with it. It is simply spicy due to the heavy black pepper taste and the aroma of the chilly added to it
Price: RM11.90 per 100g

We also tried the Devilled Crab which is not in the Spicy Range. It is more alike Chinese Dishes where the Sri Lanka Crab is being prepared in the sweet and sour style .
Price: RM11.90 per 100g

Brinjol Moju is being served to us. Moju means Pickle . This is where the brinjol is being cut into tiny sizes and then it is being deep fried. It is seved with the mixed of spices and pinch of viniger
Price: RM8.00

Eggplant Sombol is where the eggplant is being cut into small tiny slices and being deep fried. It is then being served with spices as well as onions.
Price: RM 8.00

Next we had the Doosra Roti which is where the bread is being pan grilled with the grated coconut, onions and mild chili. The texture is slightly hard and salty style of appetizer to complete your meal.
Price: RM 8.00

– Normal & Egg Appam-

– Sweet Appam-

We are also served with the local favorites which is the appam. Appam is the thin wafer, bowl shapped pancakes which is made from fermented batter of rice flour and coconut milk. The appam is being served with a few styles and choices like egg appam, coconut appam, plain appam and also the sweet taste bites of appam.
Price: RM 6.00

Last but not least we also tried the Sri Lankan desserts which is the Vattilappam. It is a rich pudding, made of coconut milk, brown palm sugar, eggs and various spices including cinnamon

Virgin mojito is one of the recommended drink where the drink is made from mint leaf, brown sugar, fresh lime and bitter lemon
