Canberra’s famous Freakshakes go global

July 11, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

People all around the world are now able to satisfy their sweet-tooths with the Canberra milkshakes creating world-wide intrigue and envy.

Originally located in the suburb of Manuka in Australia’s capital, Pâtissez became a social media sensation in early 2015 following the introduction of their signature Freakshakes – mouth-watering milkshakes piled high with brownies, cookies, pretzels and even slabs of cake.

After battling huge queues outside their suburban cafe, the family-owned patisserie – also known for their spectacular cakes and desserts – soon opened a second Canberra store in the centre of the city. Now, they are taking the world by storm.

Pâtissez owner Anna Petridis said the first store outside of Australia had attracted large crowds since opening in Kuala Lumpur last month.

“We’re thrilled, the team in Kuala Lumpur is excellent,” she said.

“The store is located on Jalan Talawi, Bangsar Village and it’s beautiful – everything a Pâtissez store should be. I plan on using that store as the model for all future stores.”

This week Pâtissez also opened its first Singaporean store in the new Raffles Holland Village on Holland Avenue.

“It’s totally different to Kuala Lumpur but has its own flavour, which definitely suits the area and local market,” Ms Petridis said.

The success of Pâtissez in Kuala Lumpur has set the international wheels in motion, with plans underway for more store locations in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and Bangkok.

Ms Petridis said she and the Pâtissez team couldn’t be more excited about their success, both in Australia and abroad. She credited much of the business’ success to the team behind it.

“We are in the process of setting up “Pâtissez Exchange”, where staff at any level get the opportunity to work in various locations around the globe,” she said.

“My biggest motivator for doing this is creating something that people want to be a part of and see as a viable rewarding career option. It’s about creating a family for me, where everyone is connected. I will consider myself successful once that is achieved.”

With international flights set to commence between Singapore and Canberra this September, Ms Petridis encouraged Pâtissez fans to travel to her home town of Canberra, where they could experience “the original and the best”.

Pâtissez is just one of many things to love about Canberra. From award-winning restaurants and a multitude of galleries and museums to a jam-packed calendar of annual events and endless natural attractions just waiting to be explored, it’s just one good thing after another.
Canberra is an eight-hour flight away from Singapore. From September 20, Singapore Airlines will commence direct flights between Canberra and Singapore four times a week.
