Malaysian pharmacy and wellness retailer R Pharmacy has expanded its nationwide presence with the opening of its 28th outlet at Sunway Velocity Mall, strengthening its ambition to become a broader retail platform for locally developed health and wellness brands.
The new outlet represents another step in the company’s long-term expansion plan, with R Pharmacy setting a target of 50 stores nationwide by 2029. Beyond increasing its physical footprint, the retailer says its strategy is focused on making wellness products more accessible while providing Malaysian brands with greater visibility among local consumers and international visitors.
Building a Platform for Malaysian Wellness Brands
R Pharmacy is positioning itself as more than a conventional retail pharmacy.
Its broader direction centres on connecting consumers with an expanding range of Malaysian health and wellness products, particularly brands that may find it challenging to compete for shelf space and consumer attention against established international names.
According to R Pharmacy chief executive officer Adrian Toh, the company was founded on the belief that Malaysian businesses are capable of developing relevant and innovative wellness solutions that can stand alongside global brands.
The opening of the Sunway Velocity Mall outlet therefore represents both a retail expansion and an extension of the company’s role as a platform for homegrown businesses.
By growing its physical network, R Pharmacy aims to provide local brands with more opportunities to introduce their products to consumers, strengthen brand awareness and expand beyond their existing customer bases.
Expansion Amid Strong Domestic Pharmaceutical Investment
R Pharmacy’s growth comes as Malaysia continues to strengthen its pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem.

The retailer cited Malaysian Investment Development Authority figures showing that the country recorded RM724.8 million in approved pharmaceutical investments across 15 projects in 2025. Domestic investors contributed 96.6% of the total, while the approved projects are expected to create 872 employment opportunities.
The figures form part of a wider year of record investment activity. MIDA reported that Malaysia secured RM426.7 billion in total approved investments in 2025, covering 8,390 projects across the services, manufacturing and primary sectors.
For R Pharmacy, the strong domestic contribution to pharmaceutical investment reflects growing confidence in Malaysia’s ability to develop its own healthcare products, manufacturing capabilities and wellness businesses.
Retailers can play an important supporting role within that ecosystem by connecting locally developed products with consumers. While research, manufacturing and product development form one side of the industry, accessible retail distribution is equally important in determining whether homegrown brands can achieve wider recognition.
Supporting Local Products Through Retail Accessibility
A key focus of the new outlet opening is R Pharmacy’s partnership with Malaysian health brand Tigrox.

Under the retail arrangement, Wellous’ Tigrox Tiger Milk King is now available at R Pharmacy outlets nationwide. The collaboration is intended to increase the product’s retail accessibility while giving the Malaysian brand greater exposure through R Pharmacy’s growing network.
The partnership also reflects the broader spirit of the government’s local-product initiatives, which encourage consumers to discover and support Malaysian businesses.
Rather than presenting homegrown wellness products as a separate or niche category, R Pharmacy is seeking to place them alongside more familiar international products within a mainstream retail environment.
This approach may help consumers compare available options more easily while giving Malaysian brands an opportunity to establish trust through consistent physical retail presence.
The availability of a product in pharmacy outlets does not replace the need for consumers to seek professional advice where appropriate. Customers with medical conditions, allergies or concerns about supplement use should speak with a pharmacist or qualified healthcare professional before making a purchase.
Connecting Wellness Retail with Visit Malaysia 2026
R Pharmacy is also working with Tourism Malaysia to promote Malaysian-made wellness products to international visitors.
The collaboration takes place against the backdrop of Visit Malaysia 2026, the national tourism campaign designed to showcase the country’s culture, heritage, food, nature and locally developed experiences to travellers.
Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General for Promotion II Samuel Lee said initiatives that highlight Malaysian-made products can contribute to the country’s appeal as a destination.
For visitors, locally developed wellness products can become part of the wider Malaysian retail experience, alongside homegrown food, beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands.
For local businesses, exposure to international travellers may provide opportunities to build awareness beyond Malaysia and eventually explore new markets.
R Pharmacy’s involvement illustrates how the Visit Malaysia campaign can extend beyond conventional tourism attractions. Retail, wellness and locally manufactured goods can also form part of how visitors experience and remember the country.
Merdeka and Malaysia Day Campaign
The outlet opening coincides with R Pharmacy’s Merdeka & Malaysia Days Sales Campaign, which runs from 13 August to 27 September 2026.
The campaign features a series of promotions inspired by the colours of the Malaysian flag. Customers who incorporate the designated colour into their clothing or accessories during selected campaign periods can receive discounts on their total purchases, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
The concept combines a seasonal retail campaign with public participation, giving shoppers a light-hearted way to mark Merdeka and Malaysia Day while visiting the pharmacy.
Selected opening promotions and gifts may be limited by availability, so customers should check the latest terms with the outlet before making a purchase.
A Milestone at Sunway Velocity Mall
The official opening ceremony was attended by Adrian Toh, CEO of R Pharmacy; Phang Sau Lian, CEO of Sunway Mall; and Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General for Promotion II at Tourism Malaysia.
Located on Basement One of Sunway Velocity Mall, the new branch operates daily from 10am to 10pm. It provides shoppers with access to pharmacy essentials, personal-care products and a growing selection of health and wellness brands.
Its position within a major urban shopping centre gives R Pharmacy access to a broad customer base, including nearby residents, office workers, families and tourists.
Looking Towards 50 Outlets
With 28 stores now operating nationwide, R Pharmacy has completed more than half of its stated journey towards 50 outlets by 2029.
Reaching that target will require more than opening additional branches. The company will also need to maintain service quality, strengthen its pharmacist-led offerings and ensure that the homegrown products it champions meet consumers’ expectations for quality, safety and transparency.
Nevertheless, the Sunway Velocity Mall opening demonstrates the company’s intention to develop a retail identity that combines pharmacy services with broader support for Malaysian innovation.
As consumer interest in preventive health, personal wellbeing and locally developed products continues to grow, R Pharmacy sees an opportunity to occupy the space between traditional pharmacy retailing and the expanding wellness economy.
Its latest outlet is therefore not simply another point of sale. It represents a wider strategy to connect Malaysian brands with consumers, improve access to wellness products and showcase local capabilities through a growing national retail platform.
