Said ‘Ngam’ and It Happened: Social Hijack Experiment

April 6, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

What started as a simple, everyday word quickly turned into something a lot more interesting on Malaysian social media. In the days leading up to the launch of the Galaxy A57 and A37, Samsung Malaysia quietly slipped into conversations across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok — with one very specific trigger: “ngam.”

And Malaysians noticed.

From casual comments like “this outfit ngam today” to “weather finally ngam”, users began spotting something unexpected — Samsung Malaysia replying in places you wouldn’t usually expect a brand to be.

From “Eh why Samsung here?” to “Okay this is actually fun”

What made the activation click wasn’t just the replies — it was how natural it felt.

Just a brand reacting in real time, like how Malaysians already talk online.

Soon, things caught on and it became a bit of a thing: “Try comment ngam… see Samsung reply or not.”

And just like that, a simple word turned into a low-key social game — with users testing it across platforms, sharing screenshots, and looping others in (who knows, maybe even your favorite brand! *wink*).

But this wasn’t just for fun.

The choice of “ngam” comes from a simple truth about the Galaxy A Series — it’s designed to feel just right. In a market full of trade-offs, where a slimmer phone might mean less battery, or better performance comes with a higher price tag, the Galaxy A57 and A37 are built to sit right in that sweet spot.

Balanced design. Reliable performance. Everyday value.

In other words… memang ngam.

By tapping into a word Malaysians already use to describe something that hits just right, Samsung Malaysia turned a product truth into something people could instantly relate to — and more importantly, interact with.

The “Ngam” Reveal

Then came 25 March, 8PM.

The replies started to hit different.

What began as playful, slightly cryptic interactions started to make sense — as Samsung Malaysia

revealed the thinking behind it all: “ngam” wasn’t random, it was intentional.

Because when something works exactly the way you need it to, with no major trade-offs — that’s when Malaysians would say… memang ngam.

And that’s exactly what the new Galaxy A57 and A37 are built for.

For the Galaxy A57, it’s all about Nightography — capturing clear, detailed shots even in low light, so your night moments turn out the way you expect. Night shots that actually come out nice → ngam

For the Galaxy A37, the focus is performance — delivering smooth, lag-free gaming and everyday multitasking, supported by an enhanced cooling system for sustained use. Smooth gameplay, no panas-panas lag → ngam

Beyond that, both devices are designed to hit just the right balance across everyday essentials:

• A slim design that doesn’t sacrifice usability → ngam

• AI features like Circle to Search 3.0, Best Face and Object Eraser that simply make life easier → ngam

• Long-lasting battery that keeps up with your day → still ngam

• Security and longevity with Knox and 6x OS updates → memang ngam

Why This Worked (And Why People STILL Talked About It)

Instead of asking Malaysians to pay attention, Samsung Malaysia joined conversations they were already having — in a language that felt instantly familiar.

It didn’t feel like a campaign.

It felt like a brand that understands local culture. A brand that’s willing to be a bit playful. A brand that doesn’t mind ‘lepak-king’ in the comments section.

And in a space where most brands are still talking at people, this flipped the script — by simply replying.

Before you scroll off, why not try it yourself?

• Step 1: Open your social media accounts – we’re talking Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok!

• Step 2: Post something and be authentically YOU!

• Step 3: Include “ngam” in your caption.

If you just want to stay in the comments section, you can too – just make sure your caption includes ‘ngam’ and see if we’ll respond!

You never know, Samsung Malaysia might just drop you a comment.
