A Return to Refinement: Elevated Cantonese Dining at Ming Ren Xuan, Avenue K

May 3, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

In a city teeming with culinary ambition, Ming Ren Xuan continues to distinguish itself as a sanctuary of elevated Chinese gastronomy. Tucked within the elegant surrounds of Avenue K, this fine dining destination has long been known for its masterful interpretations of Cantonese classics — and our recent return visit confirms that the team is not resting on past laurels.

With a new line-up of signature dishes, Ming Ren Xuan delivers a dining experience where every plate is a symphony of texture, technique, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients — a meal that celebrates tradition while embracing contemporary elegance.

Signature Duo Combination Platter

The experience begins with a visual feast — the Signature Duo Combination Platter, a beautifully plated opening act that sets the tone. The deep-fried Australian scallop, stuffed with prawn paste and coated in golden almond flakes, offers a satisfying contrast between crisp exterior and juicy interior — nutty, sweet, and unmistakably luxurious.

The second component — wok-fried minced duck meat with black pepper, crowned with pine nuts — is equally captivating. Rich, slightly smoky, and lifted by the aromatic crunch of pine nuts, it carries a confident heat and depth that hints at the chef’s expertise in balancing boldness with finesse.

Braised Bird’s Nest Broth

A Cantonese banquet would not be complete without a nourishing soup course, and the Braised Bird’s Nest Broth with Scallops, Crab Meat, and Egg White does not disappoint. It’s a bowl of delicate richness — the silky strands of bird’s nest and soft egg white providing an ethereal mouthfeel, while the chunks of scallop and crab lend sweetness from the sea. It’s a luxurious pause between courses, warm and restorative.

From Grill to Roast: Seafood and Signature Meats

The Australian Scallop and Crystal Prawn Skewer, served with a generous drizzle of crab meat gravy, is a modern twist on surf-and-surf indulgence. Grilled to succulent perfection, each bite of seafood feels vibrant and fresh, while the creamy, umami-rich gravy binds the components into a unified, satisfying whole.

A true highlight arrives in the form of Roasted Crispy Duck with Wild Mushroom and Black Truffle Sauce — a dish that seamlessly blends heritage and innovation. The duck is roasted to achieve a crackling skin while retaining its juicy, tender meat. The accompanying black truffle sauce lends an earthy, luxurious dimension that transforms this staple into something utterly indulgent.

Crispy Egg Noodle Ball

Perhaps the most whimsical dish of the night, the Crispy Egg Noodle Ball with Seafood in Egg Gravy is a masterclass in both technique and presentation. Golden, crisp, and visually striking, the noodle nest soaks in the luscious egg-based sauce, revealing tender morsels of seafood with every bite. It’s a playful moment that delights the palate and the eye.

 Double-Boiled Apricot Seed Dessert

Dessert arrives in soothing fashion — a warm bowl of Double-Boiled Apricot Seed and Gum Tragacanth with Brown Sugar. Light, subtly sweet, and calming to the senses, it’s the kind of dessert that reminds you how balance and restraint can be just as luxurious as decadence.

Ming Ren Xuan is not a place for rushed meals or casual cravings. It is, however, a celebration of refinement — a tribute to Chinese culinary artistry expressed through high-quality ingredients, impeccable technique, and modern presentation. Whether you’re hosting guests or seeking a gastronomic treat, every dish here whispers sophistication and leaves a lasting impression.
