Choo Sung-hoon from Physical 100 Explored Hong Kong solo dolo

March 31, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

This March, from a series of world-class art events to the Hong Kong Sevens, Hong Kong is teeming with exciting activities. To add to the delight, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) was glad to have Korean mixed martial artist Choo Sung-hoon – contender from NETFLIX Physical 100 – tour around Hong Kong, discovering the hidden gems of the city solo dolo.

A solo dolo day trip in Hong Kong

Choo Sung-hoon recently came to town for the “Pro-Am Tournament” for the World City Championship presented by the Hong Kong Golf Club. Following the tournament, Choo was invited by HKTB onto a day tour in Hong Kong specially designed for the suave and sophisticated. His day time itineary included a deluxe party tram ride on Hong Kong island; dim-sum tasting in Woo Cheong Tea House in Wan Chai, as well as refined suit making at century-old custom tailor Loa Hai Shing. After enjoying happy hour in a rooftop bar Cruise in North Point, Choo wound down with a truly local hotpot dinner in Tin Hau.

Choo recalled that the last time he visited Hong Kong was seven years ago. This time around, he was just as excited. “Like other Koreans, I have been really missing Hong Kong – especially the food and the attractions. Hong Kong is such a charming city where you never get bored because there is always something new. My wife and daughter Sarang were here with me on this trip. They headed off to world class art happenings in town including Art Basel while I got to enjoy some me time. With all the culinary delights and spectacular view, what more could a tourist ask for? I was here for around  100 hours and it was just as challenging as Physical 100 since I had to explore the city one could never get enough of. What impressed me the most was the TramOramic Tour Tram. A century-old vehicle traversing a metropolis is just so symbolic of Hong Kong – a city that blends the Old perfectly with the New. I also enjoyed my happy hour in the sky restaurant-bar Cruise in North Point. Taking a drink paired with a world-class panoramic view of Victoria Habour is just a pure pleasure,” Choo remarked. He concluded his day of excursion with an authentic Hong Kong style hotpot dinner in Tin Hau.

Unique Hong Kong experiences unmatched by any

Each stop on Choo’s day trip is itself an icon of Hong Kong. Located in Central, Loa Hai Shing is a century-old tailor shop that has been operated by four generations in Hong Kong. The shop offers some luxurious garment materials, such as 24K gold threads and diamond powder woven fabrics, for the most discerning customers. Internationally famous customers include late superstars Michael Jackson and David Bowie, Queen Elizabeth II, former British Prime Minister Mrs Thatcher, former US President Clinton, football star Beckham, to name a few. Woo Cheong Tea House is another cultural artefact of Hong Kong. Situated within a historic four-storey tenement building, it has been repurposed from a traditional pawn shop. It boasts a philosophy of “innovating with tradition” that duly celebrates Wan Chai’s status as a meeting point of old and new cultures, making itself an unmissable destination for tourists interested in Old Hong Kong.
