Rekindle Sweet Memories and Cherished Traditions with Loved Ones at The Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur this Chinese New Year

January 18, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

The Chinese New Year celebration next year will be one that is eagerly anticipated, as families and loved ones excitedly plan for a physical reunion after two years of lockdown. It is a chance for families to spend time together, catch up and exchange well-wishes for the coming year.

And there is no better venue to rekindle good times and enhance family bonds over sumptuous traditional Lunar New Year fare than at the Grand Millennium KL’s Lai Ching Yuen restaurant. Through the changing times and tides of the city, Lai Ching Yuen has stayed steadfast and true to its menu of age-old Cantonese dishes synonymous with luxury, all served within a classical Chinese interior of red and black accented by Oriental table settings of rosewood high back chairs, marbled tables and fine china crockery.

To welcome the Year of the Water Rabbit, the team at Grand Millennium KL will be serving up delectable spreads at Lai Ching Yuen.

鴻運当头齐捞生 (三文鱼脆鱼皮捞生)

Yee Sang with Sliced Norwegian Salmon and Crispy Fish Skin

We started off with Yee Sang where it is served beautifully with the fresh Sliced Norwegian Salmon and Crispy Fish Skin. The yee sang is exceptionally delicious where the ingredients are superbly fresh and every mouthful is simply heavenly.

大展鴻运 (松茸干贝海参炖鸡汤)

Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Dry Scallop, Sea Cucumber and Agaricus Blazei

You can enjoy the Double Boiled Soup which is packed with flavours and one of the highlights is they had added the Agaricus Blazei which is the imported mushroom. They are also using the Dry Scallop from Japan and the soup is double boiled for 7-9 hours. The soup is complete with the aromatic hint from all the ingredients and each sip is heavenly.

富贵荣华 (避风塘虾婆)

Wok-fried Slipper Lobster in “Bei Fong Tong” Style

Inspired by the famous Hong Kong Cuuisine, Lai Ching Yuen had recreated their own version of “Bei Fong Tong” using their own created style. This is where the chily together with loads of garlic is deep fried till perfection leaving you the light spicy hint but yet addictive flavours.

年年有余 (油泡青眼斑)

Fried Green Eye Grouper with Hot Oil in Wave Style

Using the Green Eye Grouper which is beautifully prepared In the Hot Wave Style. This is where the fish is being splash with water and oil to create the flaky texture of the fish. They are indeed so good and delicious.

龙精虎猛 (港式挂炉烧鸭)

Hong Kong Roasted Duck

He duck is specially imported all the way from Ipoh. We understand that the duck is feed with organic and healthy food creating the meat comes tender and succulent. They are indeed well roasted and we love how they had made it where it leaves you with the crispy skin and yet the tender and juicy meat with no gammy taste in it.

好市发财 (蚝豉发菜菇丝干贝扒津白)

Braised Dried Oyster with Sea Moss, Dry Scallop, Shredded Mushroom and Garden Greens

As for this dish, we found out that the dried oyster is different from many place we tasted. In here, the oyster is all the way from Gongdong Provience and the chef had choosen the best oyster here. In here, the oyster is not dried but it comes pulpy and delicious. It is sides with the Sea Moss, Dried Scallop and the Chinese Cabbage. Superbly good.

一团和气(腊味荷叶饭)

Chinese Wax Meat Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf

The dish is irrestible and I am totally in love with it. The Lap Mei which is used is all the way imported from Hong Kong and in here chef’s had combined the wax meat, Chinese waxed meat and wax duck in it. Using the fragrant rice and chef’s signature recipe, it is beautifully cooked in the lotus leaf leaving the flavours of the lotus leaf absorb in to it. This is so good and I don’t mind having the second bowl.

步步高升 (香芋炸年糕)

Crispy Yam Nian Gao

金枝玉叶 (红豆沙汤圆)

Sweetened Red Bean Soup with Glutinous Rice Ball

We ends our meal with the awesomely prepared Crispy Yam Nia Gao where it is the signature of Lai Ching Yuen The nian gao here is made from scratch by their chef and they  are one of the items which is available whole year round. The flour is hand grinded by themselves and it brings you with the perfect sweetness and stickiness.

If you are looking for a place to celebrate your CNY; is time to visit Lai Ching Yuen. The set is priced at  RM 2,888 nett (10 persons per table). Aiseds they have some other option such as Active and Vigoriusly Set @ RM 2288 (10 pax), “Smiles Of Fortune” @ RM 3,888 nett ( 10 pax)

Meet God of Prosperity and Partake in Rousing Lion Dance Performance

On the eve of the Chinese New Year (21 January 2023) at 7pm, the God of Prosperity will make a lap around the hotel’s lobby and restaurants to bestow his blessings and bring fortune to guests. This tradition is carried out in the hope that it will usher in good fortune and shield all from negative influences.
