Cor Blimey! British Fish & Chips @ Desa Sri Hartamas

December 14, 2020 by StrawberrY Gal

For those who are a big fan of fish and chips, you can now visit the Cor Blimey! British Fish & Chips. It has been a while since I visited them and their fish & chips is one of our favourites.  The story of the superb Fish & Chips Outlet comes all the way from their founder Adam Hanrahan, was raised in the leafy English county of Hampshire, but spent many summers by the sea hunting for the best local fish and chip shops.

By his own admission, Adam would quite happily to eat this classic British dish for breakfast, lunch and dinner! With his family’s root in Klang, Malaysia, Adam travelled regularly to Malaysia but found it impossible to find good fish and chips. So, one day he decided to take action and change all this.

Together with local family & friends, Adam developed the idea to bring proper British-style fish and chips to Malaysia, using only the freshest ingredients. Styling Cor Blimey as a British neighborhood fish and chips shop, the aim is to give local Malaysian a real taste of British dining, complete with authentic dishes, British-themed decor, classic songs and of course malt vinegar!

“Fish & Chips” Family Feast (RM 134.90)

So, if you are here, one of the must try is their “Fish & Chips” Family Feast! One can enjoy 4 types of fish in one huge platter which includes the Atlantic Cod, Pacific Halibut, Ocean Perch and Dory. They are beautifully deep fried in different homemade batter flavours and sides with the chunky chips, creamy mash, garlic butter rice, mushy peas, garden peas, coleslaw, baked beans, pickled egg, gherkin, tartar sauce and the vinegar. Their chunky chips are so good to snack on unlike other frozen chips from other places. They are homemade, hand peeled and triple-cooked to golden crisp, with soft and fluffy on the inside.

Seafood Sharing Platter for two (RM 64.90)

For two persons, you can go for their Sharing Platter for two. It is perfect for couples to share the awesome set. The set completes with the Dory Fish Fillets, Calamari Rings, Curry Perch Popcorn, Fish Fingers, Fish Cakes, Mussels in Batter, “Firecracker” Prawn Scampi, Triple-Cooked Chunky Chips, Tartar Sauce, Pickled Egg & Gherkin. And now you can have them in Plain, Lemon & Herb, Onion & Garlic, Chili Lemon or Curry Batter. One can enjoy them with Garlic Butter Rice/Creamy Mash and Minted Mushy Peas/Garden Peas/Coleslaw/Baked Beans.  My personal favourite batter would be the Lemon & Herb. It’s mild so you can taste the freshness of the fish.

Bangers & Mash (Chicken) (RM 30.90)

If you are not a fish lover, you can opt for the Bangers and Mash. This time we tried the Bangers & Mash (Chicken) where the homemade chicken sausage is perfectly pan grilled and they are served with rich onion gravy. They are so good, rich and meaty that I would love to enjoy another one of it. Note that they are homemade too! So don’t worry about frozen sausages anymore.

Atlantic Cod Fish and Chips (RM 44.90)

For those who love to have food on their own, they do have personal set too. The Atlantic Cod Fish and Chips is superb. Each cut of the fish comes amazingly good with the chunky fresh fish meat in it and what’s more when is served with their signature chips which is addictively good. You can have your choice of batter where you can choose from plain, lemon & herbs, onion and garlic, chilli lemon or curry batter. You can have them with the choice of their triple-cooked chunky chips or creamy mash and also with the choice of mushy peas, garden peas, coleslaw and baked beans.  You can enjoy them with the choice of the tartar sauce, lemon wedge and malt vinegar.

Pan Seared Halibut (RM 42.90)

For those who love something different, you can go for their pan seared fish. It is a lighter alternative to their fish & chips and they are just so delicious. The Pan-Seared Fish Set comes with the options of creamy mash/garlic butter rice and also choice of sauteed mixed vegetables/sauteed mushrooms/garden peas and finally choose your choice of sauce where they have creamy herb sauce and the parsley sauce. Not just that, Pan-Seared comes with variety choices of fish too which includes the Atlantic Cod, Pacific Halibut, Cherry Snapper and more. We had Pan Fried Halibut which is so good. The meat is firm but tender and juicy at the same time.

Golly Gosh! British Pie & Mash

For pie lovers, you have to try their recently launched sister brand called Golly Gosh! British Pie & Mash. The Golly Gosh aims to bring the authentic “Cockney” Pie and Mash experience to Malaysia. And this time, we tried 4 of the different pies.

Steak & Kidney (RM 32.90)

The Steak & Kidney Pie is the true British Classic. One can enjoy the short crust pastry packed with the slow cooked beef chunks and tasty morsels of kidney, smothered in a rich meat gravy. And the sides for the set are Creamy Mash/Triple Cooked Chunky Chips and Minted Mushy Peas/ Garden Peas/Chunky Coleslaw/Heinz Baked Beans. And they are then topped with the choice of Onion Gravy or Parsley Sauce.

Chicken, Leek & Mushroom (RM 28.90)

Another recommendation is the Chicken, Leek & Mushroom Pie. The Proper British Comfort Food that packed with chunky chicken, leek, mushroom and vegetable which is beautifully simmered in a creamy white sauce, surrounded by buttery, short crust pastry. They are superbly good and delicious. They are well paired with the parsley sauce.

“Fisherman” Seafood Pie (RM 30.90)

This is the delightful medley of mixed white fish together with the tiger prawns and mussels. They are perfectly baked in a creamy herb sauce and well encased in the shortcrust pastry and topped with the fluffy mashed potato.

Beef Rendang (RM 28.90)

And of course, the most favourite by the locals, Malaysian Inspired Pies- Beef Rendang pie which completely wowed us. The beef rendang is aromatic and rich in flavour which is a great combination with pie crust, so nice and will completely satisfy your belly and comfort your soul.

British Puddings

Apple & Berry Crumble with Vanilla Custard (RM 17.90)

The “Tangy” Apple & Berry Crumble with Vanilla Custard comes with the succulent sweet apple chunks, infused with berries, dusted with cinnamon and topped with the crunchy crumbles. They are baked to perfection and then served with their creamy, homemade vanilla custard.

Deep Fried “Mars” Bar Chocolate with Ice Cream (RM 14.90).

If you are a sweet tooth person, Deep Fried “Mars” Bars is a must try! Enjoy this legendary Scottish Chip-Shop addictive dessert with vanilla Ice Cream and crunchy crumbles. Eat while they still hot and you get to taste that melting chocolate and caramel in your mouth. So nice and perfect to me!

And of course, don’t miss out their wonderful homemade lemonades to go with your meals. They have a selection of original, cranberry, mint, ginger and raspberry. Each lemonade is infused with the juice of half a lemon and others fruits.

So, if you are looking for a nice great place to dine, you can now visit Cor Blimey! British Fish & Chips. They are indeed a nice place to dine and they are also Muslim-Friendly Concept restaurant! Which means, they only serve Halal food and no alcohol served or used as the ingredients.
