Chinese New Year is coming and it is time for Lo Sang to welcome the year of the snake. This year Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur offers some of the city’s best dishes for the spectacular Lunar New Year on the 10th February 2013. “There could be no better place to celebrate the Year of the Snake than at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur,” says Mr Peter D. Gibbons, General Manager of Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur. “The chefs at Lai Ching Yuen have outdone themselves with a superb eight-course dinner menu which includes all the traditional favourite Cantonese dishes at the Lai Ching Yuen restaurant.

Lai Ching Yuen: the stunning Cantonese restaurant on the first floor of Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur, offers diners an eight or nine-course celebratory menu. Chinese New Year Set menu at Lai Ching Yuen starts from RM 1,388.00++ for a table of ten persons. As for this round, we got a chance to sample their celebratory dishes which is simply delicious

We started of with the Yee Sang with Pearl Scallop and Mango (带来好运魚生(带子雪梨芒果齐捞生) where we are served with the fresh salmon and scallops, Aside, and you may find a mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients. When the yee sang is served, the waitress will say some rymthms of good luck and prosperity when serving. The yee sang is also being served with the big chewy Austrian Scallops which is my favorite of all. It is sinfully delicious where each of every bites is fresh and temptating.

Next comes the BBQ Baby Duck which is being served on the table. The BBQ duck is well served with the succulent and juicy meat and not to forget the crispiness of the bbq duck skin which is even more perfect. It is sinfully delicious and each bites is well done with the great combination of the delighting duck meat, the duck skin as well as the sauce.

Deep Fried prawns with fresh grapes and mayonnaise sauce is another dish not to be missed. The fresh prawns is being served together with the mayonnaise sauce that blends together with a light wasabi paste. It is really lovely and delicious as the prawns are so fresh and well deep fried which turns the dish superb. It is then garnished and topped with the cutted grapes together with it. The prawns are then being served on top of the crispy deep fried yee mee with it.

Steamed Squash stuffed with dried scallop is just nice and special. I am completely falling in love with this dish and it appetizing. Bringing up the whole tasty buds, it is where the squash are well stuffed with the delighting ingredients- prawns and thinly sliced mushroom. The sweet taste which is well served with it and it served with the mo-kua with it. It is then garnished with the sliced dried scallops and vegetables together with it.

Not only that, we are dining pork knuckle which is one of the item we had last year and we completely falling in love with it since then. This year, the pork knuckle came back again and it is being served together with their special Thai Sauce. The pork knuckle is absolutely a great dish which is being served where the meat is tender and juicy in the inside, with the thick crispy skin at the outside.

Chinese wax meat rice with yam wrap in lotus leaf is simply a nice and delicious dish. The chef had added lovely condiments to make the dish even more perfect where he had added with the dried squids (“Yau Yue Si” in Cantonese), wax meat, wax sausage and soft sausage as well. The condiments and the rice is being mix together with the soy sauce, oyster sauce as well as dark soy sauce with it. It is then cooked together and wrapped with the lotus leaf. It is being steamed and served to us. The dish is well made and amazingly delicious.

We are also served with the Braised sea cucumber with “Ling Zhi” mushroom and Garden greens. The sea cucumber is well braised which gives a chewy taste of it and the dishes taste good too. It is served with the “Ling Zhi” mushrooms where the textures are alike abalone and broccoli together with it.

The CNY meals ends with the Pan fried homemade nian gao.The nian gao is well prepared by the chef where the nian gao is not sticky as well as not too sweet. Overall the meal is really good and satisfy.
