A Year of Abundance with the Golden Pearls & Treasures Yu Sheng by Gourmet Carousel, Royal Plaza on Scotts

January 11, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

Usher in the Lunar New Year with the Golden Pearls & Treasures Yu Sheng (珠光宝气招财鱼生), masterfully crafted by the talented culinary team of the award-winning buffet restaurant, Carousel, at Royal Plaza on Scotts.

Taking inspiration from the 2019 Chinese zodiac, pearls (珠) are chosen as the star ingredient of the Golden Pearls & Treasures Yu Sheng for its identical pronunciation in Mandarin. Pearls make their appearance twice in this Yu Sheng to double the prosperity. Pearl powder is selected for its health properties to calm the mind and reduce heatiness. Chewy black pearls embellished with gold leaves bring that extra bite and glitz to the dish. The unique Yu Sheng gives an auspicious head start for the year to come, with an abundance of treasures in store.

The Golden Pearls & Treasures Yu Sheng features servings of abalone and marinated jellyfish, and is adorned with salmon roe and green ebiko. Crunch on the homemade crispy bits (everyone’s favourite!) dished out in the form of potato, tapioca and yam strips, beancurd skin, breaded enoki mushrooms and the best of all – coffee-glazed shimeji tempura; take in the smooth, rich aroma with a hint of caramel.

There are also fresh ingredients such as hydroponic vegetables, shredded green papaya and pomelo, coupled with bursts of sweet juicy flavours from the tropical fruits – jackfruit and mango, to refresh the palate. A sprinkle of black and white sesame seeds and ground pistachio adds a subtle nutty taste. For the finishing touch, drizzle over with the fragrant passion fruit sauce infused with pearl powder.

The Golden Pearls & Treasures Yu Sheng is available at $158 for the small portion (4 to 6 persons) and $188 for the large portion (8 to 10 persons).

Other Prosperity Yu Sheng sets include the Salmon Yu Sheng at $68 for a small portion and $98 for a large portion, Tuna Yu Sheng at $68 for a small portion and $98 for a large portion and Abalone Yu Sheng at $98 for a small portion and $138 for a large portion.

All Lunar New Year takeaway items are available from 1 to 19 February 2019, 10am to 10pm daily.
