TASTE OF TIFFIN OFFERS PREVIEW OF EXPERIENTIAL CELEBRATION OF FOOD AND DRINK; TO DEBUT AT TIFFIN WEEK IN SEPTEMBER

February 29, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Tiffin, the multi-layered platform for experiences and activities spurred by this region’s unparalleled love affair with food and drink was launched successfully at Taste of Tiffin. At Publika over the weekend, some 3,000 food and drink aficionados had the opportunity to preview the brand’s upcoming flagship project Tiffin Week. Tiffin Week’s experiential events will be held between 24 Sept and 3 Oct in the city.
Tiffin Week will feature extraordinary experiences — including the use of unique spaces and engaging activities — and will be spearheaded by chefs and mixologists from our backyard and around the world. Foodies everywhere can expect to revisit signature platforms that were launched last weekend at Publika; including thematic food market Chowdown and Tiffin Throwdown where a panel of judges and the public, vote for the best all-time favourite foods within a high-octane party environment. To continually fuel the nation’s collective epicurean love affair, Tiffin has also launched its website www.tiffin.my.
“Tiffin is our humble interpretation of how food and drink events should be experienced; not just about consumption, but also taking into account the entire experience. It’s fun, innovative and perhaps a little unconventional.”  said Adrian Yap, founder of Tiffin and Freeform Untitled.
Taste of Tiffin kicked off with Tiffin Throwdown, the food contest where myBurgerLab defeated 9 other burger maestros and won both the People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice awards; bagging both prizes of RM3,000 each, trophies and ultimate bragging rights. Their take on the burger, the Umami Bomb — which comprised of rendered Aussie beef patty, topped with a Californian swiss cheese and shiitake & enoki shrooms flanked in their signature charcoal bun; then dressed in a truffle-infused mayo, oyster sauce and bonito powder — won the public vote hand’s down and scored major cred from judges 8TV and Asian Food Channel host Razif Hashim, celebrity chef Sherson Lian and DJ Blink.
Over the weekend, Publika was the stage to a gastronomic adventure at Chowdown, where 26 vendors offered different and delectable delights in a food market built around a Mini Golf course constructed with a variety of obstacles and surprises.
Visitors with a preference for a more discerning dining experience, indulged at Taste of Tiffin’s Brunch Sessions and coffee pairing by Pulp’s Papa Palheta at The Bee where Root Cellar KL and Singapore’s Brunch Bandits by Nithiya catered to a full house.
A visit to the mixology and craft spirits enthusiasts’ section Heart Of The Run at BlackBox, served those who love a touch of the tipple. The nomadic 44 bar enthused cocktail connoisseurs with its take on an intimate cocktail oasis featuring an impressive repertoire of well-heeled and rare American craft spirits. Guest Chef Chester Low was given a platform to reimagine a selection of craft spirit cocktails that were delicately paired with succulent alcohol-infused bites.
Guests also had the opportunity to experience the evolution of cocktails through the eras — Prohibition, Disco, Tiki, Molecular, Classic and Modern — as stirred and shaken by KL’s most wanted mixologists from PS150, Omakase + Appreciate, Hyde at 53M and Secret Mermaid. Heart of The Run’s sampling session was also held for 40 kinds of specialty craft white spirits from 14 purveyors.
