Holiday Inn Express® Singapore Clarke Quay was awarded The Singapore Green Hotel Award 2015 for the first time, in recognition of the hotel’s green practices in environmental sustainability.
Organized by the Singapore Hotel Association (SHA) in partnership with the National Environment Agency (NEA), Public Utilities Board (PUB), National Water Agency, Building & Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) and Singapore Tourism Board, the biennial award recognizes hotels for their initiatives taken in key areas of sustainability including Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Environmental Protection, Indoor Environmental Quality as well as other Green Features and Innovation.
Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay was recognized for its engagement of IHG’s Green Engage system, an online tool that provides hotels with the means to measure their day-to-day environmental impact. The system allowed the hotel to track energy, carbon and water usage, and simultaneously measure the performance of waste management. With the implementation of the system, the hotel has been able to choose from over 200 activities designed to reduce energy and water usage, leading to an improved carbon footprint.
As a green-design hotel, other green aspects include a spacious landscaped rooftop which houses a 24-hour fitness room and swimming pool as well as floor-to-ceiling windows in all guestrooms for natural light. The hotel’s interior design also allows for natural air ventilation into the building, thus encouraging lower energy consumption.
As an IHG Green Engage participating hotel, guests will not only be able to enjoy the green initiatives at the hotel, but also play a part in worldwide efforts to protect the environment.
