Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur Presents Artisanal Dumplings for Dragon Boat Festival

May 3, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

This Dragon Boat Festival, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur invites guests to embrace the season of togetherness with a stunning collection of handcrafted rice dumplings (zongzi), each lovingly wrapped   in bamboo leaves and filled with heartfelt wishes for health, happiness and prosperity. Available from 1 to 31 May 2025, these timeless delicacies are a meaningful way to honour tradition, whether gifted to loved ones or shared around the family table.

The exclusive range is the creation of Chinese Executive Chef Keith Yeap, whose passion for heritage cuisine is matched only by his dedication to flavour and finesse. With over 25 years of experience and a deep reverence for culinary tradition, Chef Keith alongside Shang Palace culinary team has crafted a refined selection that captures the nostalgia of festive classics while introducing contemporary flourishes.

At the heart of the selection lies the Shang Palace Fragrant Peaks & Azure Tides Dumpling (650g), a luxurious medley of abalone, dried oyster, marinated chicken, chestnut, dried shrimp, salted egg yolk, dried scallop and shiitake mushroom. Priced at RM188, it’s a rich and flavourful tribute to the grandeur of traditional festive dining—an indulgence for the senses.

Guests can also savour the bold and aromatic Truffle-Infused Smoked Duck Rice Dumpling (180g), where fragrant truffle meets smoked duck, abalone, chestnut and shiitake mushrooms for a luxurious bite – available at RM68 nett. For a heartier, traditional flavour, the Hokkien Style Savoury Chicken Rice Dumpling (180g), blends chicken, peanuts, mushrooms and salted egg yolk in a comforting, familiar profile available at RM48 nett.

Paying homage to Malaysia’s multicultural spirit, the Celestial Blue Pearl Nyonya Dumpling (180g) is infused with blue pea flower and signature Nyonya spices, offering a delicate harmony of sweet and savoury notes with a touch of Peranakan elegance. The plant-based Imperial Golden Chickpea & Wild Mushroom Vegetarian Dumpling (180g) offers a modern, meat-free alternative rich in flavour, with vegetarian smoked duck, char siu, roasted meat, shiitake mushrooms and golden chickpeas. Both options are also available at RM48 nett.

For lovers of tradition, two classic alkaline dumplings round out the range: The Traditional Alkaline Rice Dumpling with Red Bean (90g), featuring gently sweet crimson red beans, and the Traditional Alkaline Rice Dumpling (90g), offering pure simplicity with its smooth glutinous texture and lightly aromatic profile, both priced at RM 38 nett respectively. Smooth, lightly aromatic and gently sweet, they offer a comforting taste of the past.

For an elegant gifting gesture, the Heritage of Asia Gift Box presents six signature dumplings in a beautifully designed set at RM198 nett. The exclusive hexagonal box is adorned in signature turquoise, accented with gold and delicate florals, and features a graceful crane motif, symbolising longevity and good fortune. Designed to open like a blooming lotus with six triangular compartments, it reveals a festive medley of handcrafted dumplings, perfect for sharing or as a treasured keepsake.

Inside the Heritage of Asia Gift Box:

• Hokkien Style Savoury Chicken (180g)

• Truffle-Infused Smoked Duck (180g)

• Celestial Blue Pearl Nyonya (180g)
