MILK & BARLEY MADE MALAYSIAN DEBUT WITH BOLD BUSINESS MODEL, REDEFINING RETAIL BAKERY

November 20, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Milk & Barley has officially launched its first Malaysian store at Berjaya Times Square, marking a milestone in retail bakery by combining freshness, customer interaction, and community engagement. Known as the Arabica of the baking world, Milk & Barley brings a distinct business model to Malaysia, grounded in its philosophy of ‘fresh, never overnight.’

Milk & Barley sets itself apart by making all products fresh daily, with nothing carried over to the next day. This commitment to freshness not only elevates product quality but also aligns with Malaysia’s growing demand for health-conscious, additive-free foods. Alex Teo, Founder of Milk & Barley said that freshness is the foundation of its business operations, tailored for discerning consumers who value authenticity and transparency.

“At Milk & Barley, we’re redefining what it means to be a modern bakery with a commitment to freshness and quality at the heart of our brand. We are not just offering pastries; we’re establishing a brand that stands for authenticity, transparency, and memorable experiences. In a fast-paced world, we offer a genuine touch that today’s consumers seek,” said Alex Teo.

To enhance customer engagement, Milk & Barley’s innovative store features Malaysia’s first self-serve milk station, allowing customers to pour fresh milk to complement their pastries – creating a fun, memorable experience for both children and adults alike. The One-Day Store Manager program also stands out, inviting local celebrities and influencers to manage the store for a day, merging digital engagement with in-store interactions to create shareable brand moments.

Another innovation is the in-store Countdown Discount Screens, which showcase progressive discounts on selected items as closing time approaches. This not only excites late shoppers but also reinforces the brand’s ‘fresh, never overnight’ philosophy and optimises inventory management.

Bringing Milk & Barley’s vision to life required a partner who resonated with its core values, and after careful consideration, Luban Brand Incubation was chosen. With shared expertise in brand positioning and execution, Luban played a pivotal role in launching the first store, laying a strong foundation for Milk & Barley’s growth and innovation across Malaysia.

Following the success of its Berjaya Times Square launch, Milk & Barley plans to open 10 more stores across Malaysia. This expansion aims to bring fresh, high-quality bakery experiences to more communities in high-traffic urban areas.

“As we grow, our goal remains clear: to stay true to our roots of quality, freshness, and meaningful community engagement, while continuously innovating to meet the needs of our customers. We see Milk & Barley becoming a meaningful part of Malaysia’s food culture, offering products and experiences that stand apart.”

Milk & Barley’s growth strategy also emphasises community support and local talent development. The brand exclusively hires Malaysian staff and partners with a local baking academy to offer job opportunities to recent graduates.

“We are determined to keep innovating, with new product offerings and customer-centric store formats. With our model of interactive customer experiences, local engagement, and freshness-first operations, without a doubt these places us at the forefront of  Malaysia’s competitive F&B sector,” Alex concluded.
