Tea-licious Experience @ TWG Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

September 17, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

During a recent visit to TWG, we found ourselves immersed in not just the world of exquisite teas but also in the discovery of a range of delectable meals that the brand offers.

Known for its rich and diverse selection of tea, TWG continues to surprise and captivate by blending culinary finesse with the elegance of tea infusion. What began as a tea-sipping experience evolved into an exploration of gastronomic delights that left a lasting impression.

Eternal Summer Tea Mocktail

To set the tone, we started with an invigorating mocktail – the Eternal Summer Tea Mocktail. This drink marries the sweet-tart notes of raspberry purée with the bright citrusy punch of yuzu juice, elevated by the floral and fruity essence of Eternal Summer tea. Light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, it was the ideal palate cleanser before diving into the more intricate flavors of the meal.

Smoked Salmon Roulade

The appetizers at TWG are crafted to awaken the taste buds with a perfect balance of texture and flavor. We were particularly drawn to the Smoked Salmon Roulade. A delicate dish featuring marinated prawns paired with an Indian Night tea-infused beetroot relish, orange gelée, and a zesty calamansi dressing. The infusion of the tea into the beetroot relish added an unexpected depth of flavor, harmonizing with the smoky richness of the salmon and prawns. It was a visual and gastronomic delight that set the stage for what was to come.

Chilled Flower Crab.

Another standout starter was the Chilled Flower Crab. Lightly tossed in a tangy tartar sauce, this dish came to life with a French Earl Grey tea-infused guacamole, which brought a subtle hint of citrus and bergamot to the mix. Paired with a sea urchin spicy dressing, arugula, and crunchy bread croutons, the interplay of textures and flavors was nothing short of impressive. The delicate nature of the crab, paired with the robust tea-infused guacamole, made for a refreshing yet satisfying start to the meal.

Pan-Seared Cod Fish

Moving on to the main courses, TWG’s culinary team did not disappoint. The Pan-Seared Cod Fish, served with an Asian gremolata, was a highlight. Accompanied by crushed potatoes infused with chili black oil and wilted baby spinach, the dish was finished with a luxurious ginger butter emulsion and Gyokuro Samurai tea leaves. The fish was perfectly cooked, with the delicate tea leaves imparting a subtle umami flavor, complemented by the zing of the gremolata and the warmth of the chili oil. It was a beautifully balanced dish that showcased the innovative use of tea in savory cooking.

Oven-Baked Wagyu Beef Lasagna

For those seeking comfort food with a twist, the Oven-Baked Wagyu Beef Lasagna was a revelation. Layers of pasta were interspersed with braised wagyu beef, creamy matcha spinach béchamel, and Emmental cheese, creating a rich and hearty dish. The addition of black garlic coulis and a fresh, tangy tomato sauce added depth and brightness to each bite, while the matcha-infused béchamel brought a surprising layer of earthiness. The dish was a comforting yet inventive take on a classic lasagna.

Chocolate Moelleux Cake

We concluded with the Chocolate Moelleux Cake, a decadent offering that paired the rich, gooey center of the cake with mixed berries. The vanilla Bourbon tea-infused cream provided a silky smooth contrast to the intense chocolate, while the caramel coulis added a sweet, buttery finish. It was the perfect ending to a meal that had been as much about discovery as it had been about indulgence.

The Overall Experience

What truly elevates the dining experience at TWG is how the meals echo the brand’s commitment to celebrating tea in all its forms. From the subtle infusion of tea in sauces and dressings to the bold use of tea leaves in main courses, every dish feels like a tribute to the diverse world of tea. The menu at TWG is both familiar and surprising—comforting in its classic flavors but innovative in its use of tea to add complexity and depth
