Enishi: Michelin-Awarded Ramen From Japan NOW in Malaysia

August 20, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Slurping up a bowl of ramen at ENISHI is like being transported straight to Japan. The authenticity and attention to detail in their dishes make it a standout spot in Kuala Lumpur, especially for those who crave non-tonkotsu based ramen

DAN DAN Noodle with Mini Soup and Mini Rice Bowl

One of their standout offerings is the DAN DAN Noodle with Mini Soup and Mini Rice Bowl (RM 58).  In here, the flat noodles which is made from Japan’s highest quality wheat flour, tossed with homemade chili oil and topped with an array of condiments such as minced pork, fried onions, cashew nuts, diced char siew and duck meat, Japanese pickles, and sweet diced fresh onions come together in a harmonious blend.

In here, they do provide an instruction card to guide diners on how to enjoy their DAN DAN noodles to the fullest. After snapping a quick photo, you stir the ingredients five times, add in the on-tama (soft-boiled egg), and mix everything together.  What makes the noodles so good is where the where the bowl of noodles comes simply al-dente

This makes the noodles realy result is a bowl of noodles that is perfectly al dente, with each spoonful offering a medley of textures—crunchy, chewy, crispy, creamy—enhanced by the umami flavors. The fresh onions add a sweet crunch, the chili oil brings a kick of heat, and the cashew nuts contribute a satisfying nuttiness. For those concerned about spice, the “Medium” level is recommended, offering a balanced, mildly spicy experience packed with aroma and flavor.

If the noodles feel too thick or the spices too intense, a spoonful of the accompanying dashi soup can help to hydrate the noodles and tone down the heat. Additionally, diners are encouraged to experiment with a drizzle of infused vinegar—orange, apple, or dashi—to further enhance the dish. The orange vinegar offers a refreshing citrusy note, while the apple vinegar adds a sweet touch, and the dashi vinegar deepens the savory flavors.

An often overlooked but delightful way to enjoy the meal is by mixing the leftover condiments from the DAN DAN Noodle with a mini rice bowl. This creates a satisfying finish, allowing you to savor every last bit of the dish.

Beyond the DAN DAN Noodle, ENISHI is known for its dashi-based ramen, a rarity in Malaysia where tonkotsu (pork bone broth) dominates the market.

ENISHI offers four types of dashi broth: Original Dashi, Scallops Stock Shoyu, Yuzu Shio, and Shoyu.

Each bowl of ramen is thoughtfully garnished with thin shreds of yuzu peel, adding a subtle yet refreshing citrus flavor. The basic ramen comes with a piece of chashu (braised pork belly) and two pieces of duck meat, while the regular version includes an ajitama (flavored soft-boiled egg). The special bowl is a feast, with two pieces of chashu, four pieces of duck meat, and an ajitama.

Asides you can also their chicken karaage too which comes amazingly delicious with the crispy at the outside and juicy at the inside.

ENISHI is more than just a ramen shop; it’s a gateway to the authentic flavors of Japan, right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Whether you’re a ramen aficionado or simply looking for a unique dining experience, ENISHI promises a meal that is both memorable and satisfying.
