Rust KL Café & Bar : Trendy Dining in Petaling Street with Innovative Flavors

April 17, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Rust KL Café & Bar is a trendy and contemporary restaurant located in Petaling Street, Malaysia, that has quickly become a popular destination for food and drink enthusiasts. The restaurant’s aesthetic is characterized by a light and modern look, with a blend of industrial and rustic elements that create a unique and inviting atmosphere.

Upon entering Rust KL Café & Bar, you’ll be greeted by exposed brick and unfinished cement walls that exude a raw and edgy vibe. The burgundy benches and metal and wood upcycled tables provide a comfortable and stylish seating arrangement for diners. The creative use of repurposed materials, such as old palettes painted in black and topped with cushions to serve as bar stools, adds a touch of eco-friendly and upcycling charm to the space.

As a café and bar, Rust KL also offers a tantalizing menu that complements its trendy ambiance. The restaurant serves a variety of delicious dishes and refreshing beverages, ranging from creative cocktails to artisanal coffee and scrumptious meals.

Appetizers

Petai Chicken Kam Heong

The combination of the crispy fried chicken wings with the fragrant Kam Heong sauce and the slightly  spicy and yet addictive and crunchy Petai creates a delicious and satisfying dish.

The chicken wings are cooked to perfection, with a crispy outer layer and juicy meat inside. The Kam Heong sauce adds a burst of flavor to the dish, with its aromatic and slightly spicy notes that complement the chicken wings well. The Petai adds a unique twist to the dish, providing a slight bitterness and crunchiness that enhances the overall taste.

The Petai Chicken Kam Heong is a delightful fusion of Korean fried chicken and Malaysian flavors, offering a unique and delicious taste experience. It’s a must-try dish for those who enjoy bold and aromatic flavors, and it’s a great option for sharing with friends or as a flavorful appetizer.

Salted Egg Calamari

The calamari is cooked to perfection, with a crispy and golden-brown exterior that gives way to tender and succulent calamari rings inside. The salted egg yolk sauce is the highlight of the dish, providing a rich and creamy flavor with a hint of saltiness. The combination of the crispy calamari and the luscious salted egg yolk sauce creates a delightful contrast of textures and flavors, making it a favorite among seafood lovers.

The salted egg yolk sauce is made from salted duck egg yolks, butter, and various seasonings, giving it a rich and savory taste that complements the natural sweetness of the calamari. The dish is beautifully presented, with the deep-fried calamari rings coated generously with the golden sauce, making it an attractive and appetizing dish.

Main Course

Caesar Salad (RM 28)

This classic salad is presented with a delicious twist, featuring a medley of fresh ingredients that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. It comes with  a generous serving of crisp lettuce leaves tossed in a creamy Caesar dressing that is perfectly balanced with tangy and savory flavors. The salad is adorned with an array of toppings that add depth and texture to the dish. Croutons provide a satisfying crunch, while anchovies and Parmesan cheese add a savory umami kick. The addition of tomato and hard-boiled egg adds a burst of freshness, creating a well-rounded flavor profile.

Adding in some crispy bites of beef bacon had added a unique twist to the traditional Caesar Salad. The smoky and savory flavors of the beef bacon complement the creamy dressing and fresh ingredients, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.

Carbonara Masak Lemak (RM 30)

The Masak Lemak Cili Api at Rust KL Café & Bar is a tantalizing combination of flavors and textures. It features tender slices of chicken breast cooked in a creamy and spicy coconut milk gravy, infused with the aromatic flavors of onions, garlic, and capsicum. The dish is given an extra kick of spiciness with the addition of cili api, or bird’s eye chili, which adds a fiery and flavorful element to the dish.

The dish is a perfect fusion of Malay and modern culinary influences, resulting in a unique and delicious dish that is sure to impress those who appreciate bold and adventurous flavors. The presentation of the Masak Lemak Cili Api is visually appealing, with the vibrant colors of the ingredients and the creamy coconut milk gravy creating an inviting dish. The portion size is generous, making it a satisfying main course option for those looking to indulge in Malay cuisine with a twist.

The dish with the twist of Malay  Style Cooking is indeed impressed me. You can enjoy the Malay Style of Masak lemak Cili api which is served with the sliced chicken breast, onions, garlic, and capsicum.

Asam Pedas with Pan Seared Baramudi (RM 30 )

Another dish that caught our attention at Rust KL Café & Bar is the Pasta Barramundi Fish, which is served with a unique twist of Asam Pedas Melaka style, onion, garlic, and capsicum.

The combination of flavors in this dish is a delightful fusion of Italian and Malaysian cuisine. The tender and succulent barramundi fish is cooked to perfection and served over a bed of al dente pasta. The dish is then elevated with the addition of Asam Pedas Melaka style, a traditional Malaysian sour and spicy fish dish that originates from the historical city of Melaka.

The Asam Pedas Melaka style brings a burst of tangy and spicy flavors to the dish, complementing the delicate flavors of the barramundi fish and the savory pasta. The onions, garlic, and capsicum add a depth of flavor and a touch of crunch to the dish, creating a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. And as for the noodles, they are cook al-dente, making it so delicious and appetizing.

Chicken Grilled Percik (RM 28)

This dish features a succulent grilled chicken leg served with a burger bun, tomato, fried egg, cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, and Percik sauce. The grilled chicken leg is marinated in the Percik sauce, resulting in a juicy and flavorful piece of meat.

The combination of the tender grilled chicken leg with the soft burger bun, melted cheddar cheese, and fried egg creates a mouthwatering and satisfying burger experience. The Percik sauce adds a unique twist to the traditional burger, elevating it with its distinctive Malaysian flavors. We are indeed falling in love with it so much and definitely give it a double thumbs up!
