VEGANS REJOICE! EQ LEADS THE WAY WITH A PLANT-BASED MEAT ALTERNATIVE BEYOND BURGER®

June 2, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

A flavourful surprise awaits those who try out Étoile Bistro’s latest introduction, the Étoile Beyond Burger®, launching on 3 June 2021. This plant-based meatless burger is a collaboration with the Los Angeles-based meat substitute brand Beyond Meat® and is a fresh take to the Malaysian food scene, propelling EQ and the food & beverage industry into a more health conscious and sustainable outlook.

The French word Étoile means “star” and so this newest addition to the menu honours that with starshaped buns. The juicy meatless patty is topped with crisp lettuce and tomatoes. It will be available at 11.30AM daily for takeaway and delivery and is priced at RM42. Hand-cut fries, avocados, portobello mushrooms and salsa are available as add-ons. The patty is 100% vegan and plant-based with no soy or gluten and contains 35% less saturated fat than a 113g patty of 80/20 ground beef.

“I am delighted to add the latest and greatest Beyond Burger® to our menu at Étoile Bistro,” said Sebastian Lochbrunner, Hotel Manager at EQ. “We are the first hotel in Malaysia to work with Beyond Meat®, whose products meet consumers’ growing demand for healthier plant-based proteins that deliver both texture and nutrition. Guests can enjoy the meaty experience they crave and at the same time help with global issues such as human health, climate change, constraints on natural resources and animal welfare.”

“We are thrilled to formally collaborate with EQ to launch our Beyond Meat® offerings at its iconic  Etoile Bistro. I’m excited about this meaningful endeavour to empower existing patrons of EQ and  new customers as they seek out the nutritional and environmental benefits of our delicious plantbased meats that will inspire positive choices for both people and planet,” said Louis Kho, Managing  Director and CEO of Berjaya Corporation Berhad’s Country Farms Sdn. Bhd., the exclusive distributor of Beyond Meat® in Malaysia.

Étoile Bistro at EQ picks up where the original Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur left off which pioneered gourmet coffee well before large chains arrived in Kuala Lumpur. Classic sweet treats like “Monkey in the Mist” chocolate banana milkshake and dessert buffets with 8 variations of Häagen-Dazs ice-cream were also fan-favourites. But with Étoile Bistro’s very impressive list of accomplishments there is one the spotlight was on – the launch of hotel WiFi back in 1999. Then, a novelty to Malaysians which intrigued technophiles to its significant role in our everyday lives today, EQ has been transforming unprecedented ideas and actions since its beginning. The hotel was the first in the country and was sponsored by TimedotCom for broadband with laptops provided by Apple Malaysia. An insightful and innovative look into the future of technology, its infrastructure was immediately legal and Equatorial got a hook on every other hotel in the country. After years of triumphs, a redevelopment from the iconic hotel remerged as EQ and stands tall today as Kuala Lumpur’s finest homegrown hotel. Theirknack for leadership continues today with the launch of The Beyond Burger® – the first hotel in Malaysia to do so.
