RMHC Malaysia Donates Sensory Integration Equipment

December 7, 2020 By StrawberrY Gal - Uncategorized Leave a Comment

In conjunction with International Day of People with Disabilities (IDWPD), Ronald McDonald House Charities Malaysia (RMHC Malaysia) has donated 14 sets of sensory equipment to 14 community-based rehabilitation centres (CBR) nationwide under the Disabled Development Department (JPOKU), Department of Social Welfare Malaysia (JKMM). The 14 sets of Sensory Integration Gym Product – consisting of a 12-piece wavy soft play set – worth RM10,000 each, will be installed at community-based rehabilitation centres (CBR) in each state. Occupational Therapists from RMHC Malaysia will also be providing training throughout the year to the staff at the selected rehabilitation centres which will receive the sensory equipment.

The donated sensory equipment is a sensory-motor skills training set for a flexible play experience that helps to improve special needs children’s balance and coordination. The complete and comprehensive sensory-motor skill training set helps children develop motor-planning, balance training, and coordination. The multiple shapes with various play centres will create unlimited combinations and challenges to enhance a child’s physical development.
“RMHC Malaysia is committed in making a positive impact to the health and well-being of children with different abilities in Malaysia. We hope our collaboration with JPOKU will create optimal development opportunities for children who visit these rehabilitation centres, while providing them with hours of fun,” said Azmir Jaafar, President of RMHC Malaysia.

The contribution was presented to community icon, YB Senator Ras Adiba Radzi, receiving on behalf of the disabled community with the presence of a representative from the Disabled Development Department (JPOKU), JKMM.
“I am pleased to see organisations like RMHC Malaysia come forward to do their part for the disabled community. I hope that more organisations would step forward and extend support to this vulnerable group,” said Senator Ras Adiba Radzi, President of Disabled Central.
RMHC Malaysia has been contributing to the development of children with special needs in Malaysia through its 35 sensory therapy facilities, or better known as Ronald McDonald Sensory Room (RMSR). RMSR is established at various schools and development centres for children with special needs throughout Malaysia. RMSR is a sensory therapy room equipped with multi-sensory learning and developmental equipment that stimulate special needs children with exciting visuals, music and sounds, invigorating smells and textures. Therapies and facilities at RMSR are designed for children with special needs and learning disabilities to develop cognitive skills and build self-confidence.
