The Starker Group has opened its first outlet in Johor, serving authentic German-style fresh brew for beer connoisseurs

November 13, 2017 By StrawberrY Gal - Food News Leave a Comment

Stärker Bistro, a unique bistro with a casual setting, famous for its German tradition of beer brewing and drinking, has finally opened in Johor Bahru’s burgeoning eatery scene. Seated alongside with a group of hip, nouvelle food and beverage concepts in Taman Sutera Utama, the bistro is Stärker Group’s 8th outlet. It serves locally-brewed German beer and comfort food classics in a relaxed and casual European setting.

Mando-pop Diva, A-Lin made an appearance at Stärker Bistro’s grand opening event on 5th November 2017 which hyped the avid audience. Along with food options and fresh beer, there were live music and plenty of games such as beer hoisting, Gelande Quaffing (beer sliding), bottle ring toss and sausage eating competition.

The Stärker Group began its foray into the bistro scene by starring Stärker Fresh Beer as the only brew served in its bistros. Since then, the Group has re-introduced the old-world style of beer drinking into the modern vibrancy of life that many have yet to experience. Chilling with friends while consuming beer, often with small bites and much conviviality, is the very essence of the culture of beer drinking.

“German beer drinking culture brings people together for a good time, and our bistro is known for that besides being a great place for quality beer, food and entertainment. It was clear to us that Skudai is the perfect location for us to expand, allowing us to embrace the neighbouring after-work crowd, residents and area visitors. Following the success of our bistro outlets in Singapore, we are very excited to serve fresh, locally brewed-German beers to our Malaysian fans. We hope the new outlet will become a regular gathering spot for family and friends to enjoy the excellent food and beverage offerings from Stärker Bistro,” said Khoo, Business Development Director of Stärker Group.
Stärker, a German word which means ‘stronger’, serves a range of fresh brews, from classic German-style beer to Stärker Group’s line-up of brews with unique flavours namely Lager, Dunkel and Aromatic. Well-known Master Brewer, Timothy O’Rouke is behind the innovative, fresh brews that are served at Stärker Bistro. With over 30 years of experience in the beer  brewing industry. Armed with his wealth of experience and much-sought expertise, Tim is also a consultant, founder of breweries and beer journalist.

Stärker Fresh Beer is of the highest quality, with unique blends and distinct tastes straight from the barrels. The beers are stored in wooden barrels to preserve its freshness, upholding the German brewery tradition. All brews are kegged unfiltered and unpasteurized, hence its fresh beer has a seven-day shelf life only.

EUROPEAN-STYLE SETTING
With a creative approach and dedicated passion in bringing out the tradition and culture of German drinking, Stärker Bistro evokes the feeling of being in an ancient European setting with its provincial rustic decor. The new bistro, which is estimated to have cost about RM2.5 million, features stone walls, a wood beam ceiling with faux antler chandeliers and industrial light fixtures, as well as customised furniture placed throughout the rooms, portraying an oldfashioned yet homely ambience. The interior is designed to display its European roots with stoned pavement, cobblestone flooring and natural wood to enrich the atmosphere.

Featuring a 2-storey building, the bistro has a semi-outdoor area for alfresco dining, an indoor air conditioning area and a cosy mezzanine floor, all in all, seating around 300 diners comfortably.

HEARTY GERMAN FARE AND BEER
On the menu, in addition to Stärker Fresh Beer, the highlight features Crispy Roasted Pork Belly and Stärker Traditional Pork Knuckle for an authentic German experience. For those who are not fans of pork, Stärker Bistro also offers a wide selection of hearty bites that includes Gambas on Toast; Grilled Sausages and Stärker Classic Wings. Main courses feature BBQ Baby Back Ribs; King Prawn Pasta; and Seafood Aglio Olio alongside dishes from the dedicated hand-crafted pizza menu such as Seafood; Basil Chicken; and Truffle Mushroom. For desserts, simple favourites like Molten Chocolate Lava Cake and Crème Brulee always hit the spot.

Stärker’s award-winning beer on tap is the star of the show and discerning beer lovers can pick out their favourites ranging from Lager and Dunkel to Aromatic. Diners will be spoilt for choice by the wide selection of menu, which boasts plenty of variety, flavour and style.

The bistro is open for dining from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. from Monday to Sunday. Patrons can also park at Sutera Mall which is just a seven minute walk away.
