Introducing Muslim-Friendly Features

Concluding the celebration of a decade in service, AirAsiaGo.com is set to deliver a better user experience, taking travellers on a more exciting journey, by providing convenient and affordable travel for all. For Muslim friends, the online portal is delighted to introduce the newly added ‘Muslimfriendly’ feature on its Malaysian point of sale, which features a variety of hand-picked and recommended Muslim-recommended accommodations. The new feature will also offer Muslim friendly packages, which include both flights and hotels.

“In recent years, we have seen a steady increase of international Muslim travellers. It was estimated that close to 121 million Muslims worldwide travelled in 2016 and is projected to grow to 156 million by 2020 . We acknowledge that it may be quite challenging for Muslim travellers when they
visit certain countries with a population that are not predominantly Muslim, such as China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Despite this, in 2016 alone, there were about 394,000 Malaysians travelling to Japan, an increase from 89,000 seven years ago. The introduction of this new feature, will provide more convenience for our Muslim travellers in planning their next vacation. With a single click on the tab, they will now have access to a list of Muslim-choice hotels which places their travel requirements as a priority. In the near future, we intend to keep expanding this feature and work closely with our hotel partners to make their vacation planning a hassle free one,” said Darren Goh, General Manager of AirAsiaGo.com.

Commenting on Muslim-friendly travel, Tony Wu, Director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau Kuala Lumpur (TTBKL) said, “Taiwan is listed as one of the ‘Top 10 first choice travel destinations for Muslim Travellers’ by the Global Muslim Travel Index for non-OIC category, for the past three years. Taiwan government have been focused on building up a Muslim-Friendly environment in Taiwan by working closely with Chinese Muslim Association (CMA, Taiwan) to issue Halal certification for qualified restaurants and hotels. We continuously aim to become one of the best travel destination for Muslim travellers.”

Similarly, Japan ranks 6th as the Halal travel and tourism market among non-OIC destinations in the index. Chiemi Maruyama, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization shared:

“With the increasing number of Muslim travellers visiting Japan, we have introduced a Japan Muslim Guide website (http://muslim-guide.jp/) to provide information on accommodation, restaurants and mosques for Muslim tourists to Japan.”

“We are humbled by the support received from our North Asian tourism counterparts, recognizing our efforts to promote Muslim travel from Malaysia to destinations in the North Asia region. Together we will strive to provide better and meaningful travel experiences to our Muslim and non-Muslim travellers,” said Darren.

AirAsiaGo.com will also increase travel packages for the next two quarters to markets like Indonesia, Indochina, and Australia, aside from existing promotions to North Asia markets which include China Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

Darren added: “As the world’s largest continent, Asia is home to numerous breath-taking locations and landmarks that are rich in history and culture. With the aim to give our travelers the access to the best travel experience, we will be introducing more amazing promotions in North Asia, Indochina and Australia, as we believe that there are more fascinating destinations within this region for travellers to explore and uncover.”
