Chef Tan Kim Weng, Executive Chef of Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur is the proud winner of the Scripps Network Asian Cuisine Chef of the Year Regional award at the World Gourmet Summit 2017.
The awards, which is currently in its 17th year, is held as part of the World Gourmet Summit, a globally recognised gastronomic festival established in 1997 by the Singapore Tourism Board. Themed as the ‘United Nations Gastronomic Assembly’ this year, the event is being held in Singapore from 20 March to 16 April, 2017.
The prestigious award of excellence, which was won by Chef Tan is accorded to an individual who is directly involved in a restaurant kitchen operation in Asia and demonstrates a high level of talent and creativity in preparing Asian-inspired cuisine.
Chef Tan Kim Weng has over 20 years of experience in the culinary industry, specialising in Szechuan and both modern and traditional Cantonese cuisine. He has vast experience working as a Chinese chef with established hotels and restaurants around Singapore and Malaysia.
Chef Tan leads a team of chefs by infusing his creativity, in-depth knowledge and culinary skills at Shang Palace. He is also actively involved in the training and development of his culinary team to ensure that guests who dine at Shang Palace are served with the very best of authentic Chinese cuisine.
