BASK IN THE ALLURE OF FRENCH GASTRONOMY AT THE RITZ-CARLTON, HONG KONG

April 5, 2016 By StrawberrY Gal - Food Promotion Leave a Comment

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong is set to tempt epicures with a scrumptious selection of Alsatian delicacies throughout the month of May, as this cultural and historical region in eastern France will take the center stage of Le French GourMay this year. French food and wine lovers may feast on a range of traditional Alsatian recipes and decadent wine selection at Ozone and Café 103 from May 1 to 31, 2016.

Organized by the French Trade Commission – Ubifrance in collaboration with Le French May, Le French GourMay festival is dedicated to promoting French wine culture and culinary arts in Hong Kong and Macau. Each year, Le French GourMay highlights a different wine and culinary region of France, and Alsace takes the spotlight this year. Strategically situated at the crossroads of Europe, the gastronomy of Alsace has a strong identity shaped by its culture, history and heritage. Alsatian cuisine captures the essence of French cuisine while reflecting heavy influences of German culture. Blessed with the advantage of low rainfall and a semi-continental climate, the region has a sunny and dry weather that is favorable for the extended ripening of grapes, resulting in wines with highly elegant, complex aromas.

To mark its first participation in Le French GourMay, Ozone has prepared an enticing medley of Alsatian Flammekueche, specially crafted cocktail, wine and cider, bringing French epicurean pleasures to after-hours rendezvous. A blend of Alsatian and South German cuisine, Flammekueche is the epitome of Alsatian dining culture. Traditional Flammekueche is thinly rolled-out bread dough baked with smoked French pork belly and caramelized onion. Chef de Cuisine Rafael Gil has also added a creative spin to the original recipe with two additional flavors: Terre et Mer and Nutella. Highlighted by the rich and flavorful combination of camembert cheese, tuna belly and tarragon, Terre et Mer Flammekueche is an appetizing treat for any occasion. The Nutella Flammekueche is a bold version of this traditional delicacy with the experimental blend of Nutella, strawberry, marshmallow and chocolate pop rocks. Mixologist Miguel Fernandez has also paired these gourmets with a specially crafted cocktail, Alsace, an inventive mix of foie gras-infused Cognac, 10-year-old port wine, spiced sugar and egg, presenting the best of Alsace in one glass.

This year, Café 103 will once again support Le French GourMay with themed buffets featuring more than ten delectable dishes and premium wines from the Alsace region, along with an tantalizing selection of international favorites. The Le French GourMay buffet is available nightly throughout the month of May at HK$828+10% per person, where lunch buffet is available on Saturday and Sunday only at HK$788+10% per person.
