Ohla Tapas & Cocktails is a contemporary Spanish restaurant that’s situated within The Intermark Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant being at the hidden gems in The Intermark, the venue is indeed unique with the floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the bustling Kuala Lumpur city centre, resulting in a contemporary and casual ambience.

Furnished with several light wooden tables and chairs, as well as a narrow bar counter with high bar stools facing the open kitchen, this modern restaurant has a seating capacity of approximately 27 people.

The restaurant is serving us with the simple snacks and tapas menu in Spanish as well as extensive list of wines, vermouths, beers, liquors and also the creative cocktils. Pride for its authentic Spanish delicacies, Ohla Tapas did not disappoint us at all.

We recommend starting off with Ohla’s house-made olivas marinadas (RM13), which consists of juicy olives, baby onions, peppers, and gherkins marinated in rosemary, star anise, cinnamon, and extra virgin olive oil.

Recommended by the chef, we are being served with the bellota Iberico ham with garlic, tomato and bread. To ensure the identical taste of what you had in Spain, one must alos eat the dish in the Spanish way. Rub the garlic and tomato on your piece of bread just before topping it off with a drizzling of olive oil and generous amounts of Iberico ham to guarantee satisfaction. The delights comes with the light saltiness but the dish revealed with tha balanced bursts of flavours.

We had the Ensalada de Hierbas y Flores, Cebolla, Manzana y Uvas con Vinagreta de Miel y Frutos Secos (RM22) is indeed is giving us a refreshing taste with the dabs of blue cheese from Roncal Valley. The mixed salad is freshly served with the flowers, onion, apple, tomato and grapes dressing with honey and nuts vinaigrette. The dish is indeed impressive with the pretty presentation. The flower petals brings us with the impart sweetness and the salad leaves is well balance with the sour notes.

Mediterranean Anchovies which is known as Boquerones con Ajo y Aceite Verde (RM 17.50 ++) is served next. The silky in texture fish, with the lovely potent citrus flavours. Once a bite, we can taste the delicious taste in it and I am much in love with it.

We plumped for the Mediterranean Cooked and Grilled Octopus with Potato and Pimenton de la Vera (RM34.50). The dish is absolutely tender octopus that had been boiled in mineral water for hours, then grilled in a Josper oven from Spain. The octopus comes fresh and almost creamy with the bouncy texure with it. Nicely done with the hint of sweetness on the palate.

One of the traditional dish in Spanish: Arroz Negro con All i Oli (Mediterranean seafood black rice with “all i oli”) . The squid ink is added to the ric and served together with the grilled seafood. The attractive colors with delicate flavours. I love the flavours of it where you can taste the squid-inked Spanish rice infused with lobster broth, which was also squid enriched. Nicely done.

Entrecot de Ternera Wagyu con Mantequilla de Hierbas y Patatas Glaseadas (Wagyu striploin with mustard herbs butter and baby roasted potatoes and meat sauce ) (RM 100). Cooked precisely to medium rare, the wagyu beef is infused with the chicken brooth and brings you with the mois and succulent meat.

Confit Spanish Codfish Loij is served next where the slow coked in a stew made with codfish skin. The texture of the cod fish was amazing good with the smooth flakes falling off. The overall taste is well balance with the sauce but the taste in indeed a beautiful one.

ohla tapas
Seared Foie Gras (RM 55.00) is indeed a unique delights is Ohla Tapas. Served with a creamy potato puree, black truffle shavings, and a beautiful poached egg yolk. I love the taste of it with the great blend of truffle together with the richness of the foiegras and the creminess of the egg and potato puree. Awesomely good !

ohla tapas

Cochinillo Iberico con Verduras (slow cooked Iberico suckling pig with vegetables) (RM 40) is served deliciously on the platter. The crisp barely cooke vegetables seasaons with the fats from Iberico ham. The pig was well done and slow cooked for 12 hours at 68 degrees, and it brings out the caramelized skin with the crispy skin and succulent taste beneath.

Spanish Cheeses which is served with the long plate completes with the spansh cheese with apple, walnuts and quince paste. The platter is served with thre different cheeses from the ild Rocinate Ovesa Manchego Curado (cured goat’s cheese), to Queso Manchego D.O. Ovesa Semicurado (semi cured), to the strong Valdeon Blue Cheese Leon. Served with crusty warm bread.

Ended with the luscious desserts, where you can go out with a bang with the caramelised banana served with banana ice cream and white chocolate popping candy. The well done desserts comes absolutely tasty despite of the humble apperance. This is where it is cooked with the lemon and orange and then covered in brandy gelatin, the banana melts in your mouth to create a dessert worthy of sharing. Accompanying with it is the banana ice cream with the white chocolate pop rocks makes a hidden surprise which brings us with the chilhood experience where it is like eating pop rocks.
