GOAT YEAR REUNION BUFFET AT G HOTEL, PENANG

February 6, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

The Lunar New Year celebration is the time of the year when the Chinese prepare to usher the beginning of a New Year by having a reunion dinner with the gathering of families. In line with the long heritage and tradition, at G Café the Lunar New Year is celebrated with a splendid buffet spread that comes with a live BBQ.

The highlight of the buffet will be the Salmon Yee Sang. It’s time to raise the chopstick and toss the mixture of the raw fish, shredded vegetables, chopped nuts and toasted sesame seeds with a special sauce. In Chinese custom, it is said that the higher you toast the Yee Sang the higher your fortune and luck for the year!

As a starter, G Café will be serving Fish Maw Soup along with other choices of hot and cold soup. Fish Maw soup is a tasty and flavorful dish whereby the fish maw is double boiled with Chinese herbs, chicken, dry scallops and red dates. Fish maw is like a tofu and almost tasteless, used for its unique texture and ability to soak up other flavors it’s cooked with.  For Chinese New Year this would be an ideal soup to serve for the whole family.

Another mouth-watering starter is the Braised Sea Kingdom Chowder or in another word it’s a seafood stew. Fresh prawns, mussels, fish and crabmeat are braised in a clear broth and then thickened with cream. This creamy with subtle flavors of seafood best eaten while it still hot and for a fulfilling meal, guests can consume this stew with choices of freshly baked bread.

As for the main dish we have the Roasted Peking Duck, Fried Prawn Golden Egg with York Sauce, Baked Whole Salmon Chili Mayo and many other interesting dishes. The Roasted Peking Duck is a whole duck marinated with spice powder and then roasted to perfection. The slices of the roasted duck along with cucumber, leek, spring onions and a dash of Hosin sauce are then rolled with the egg skin for a complete oriental dish.

Chef’s recommendation for the main item will be the Fried Prawn Golden Egg with York Sauce. The fresh prawns are deep fried and cooked together with salted egg york, cili padi, curry leaves and together with butter to enhance the aroma. This dish is perfectly eaten on its own or with steamed rice.

The must have on the dinner table during Chinese New Year is fish. The recommended fish dish is the Baked Whole Salmon Chili Mayo which is delicious and creatively presented. The salmon is marinated with chili sauce, mayonnaise, onion and capsicum and baked to create a fusion dish that will surprise and delight everyone.

For seafood enthusiast, the Live BBQ counter is stacked and loaded with Salmon, Cat Fish, Squid, King Prawn, Slipper Lobster and many more fresh seafood and seasonal catch.  Not forgetting poultry and meat lovers, there will be choices of Chicken Chop, Lamb Chop, Beef Steak, Chorizo and Sausages. All ingredients are grilled to perfection, tender, juicy and accompanied with different kinds of barbeque sauces according to individual preferences.

The Assorted Hand Roll Japanese Sushi Bar will be serving Sashimi; Tuna, Salmon, Butterfish, Takuan, Gari and other seasonal catch. There will also be a Show kitchen which will be having Assorted Deep Fried Tapas, Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup, Pau, Dim Sum and many more festive and international food.

To complement the reunion dinner, our Award Winning Pastry Chef, Chef Tan has prepared Chinese New Year cakes such as the fragrant Pandan Chiffon Cake which is baked using the real pandan leaves. The must try festive confectionery is the Chinese Pan Cake. The pancake is stuffed with white lotus seed paste and then deep fried. The other sweet fares are assorted Chinese New Year Cookies, Gai Lung Jelly, Hot Tau Fu Fa and many more sweet tooth items.

On the first day of Chinese New Year, there will be an acrobatic Lion Dance performance at the lobby. The lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture in which performers mimic lion’s movement in a lion costume. Catch the lion dance bouncing on stilts and performing acrobatic stunts. Be mesmerize and if you are lucky, catch an orange from the lion for good luck.

Throughout this festive month, G Lounge will be serving Oriental Concoctions with exotic fruits and spices such as the Lychee Martini, Downtown Beijing, The Good Fortune Cocktail, Ang Pau and Firecracker Cocktails. The Good Fortune Cocktail is a delicious mixture of orange juice, pomegranate juice, Campari, Bourbon, Vermouth and orange peel for a refreshing scent and festive mood. These special drinks are priced at RM 30++ per glass and only available for a limited time only.

Tree Bar will be also serving Salmon Yee Sang along with other ala carte menus and each servings of Yee Sang are priced at RM 38++ for two to three persons. This will be a great venue for an open air festivity with choices of drinks accompanied by soulful music and happening ambience at the al-fresco area.
