Kenny Rogers ROASTERS launched the 9th ROASTERS Health Watch (RHW) challenge yesterday. Themed ‘Healthy Twenties’, it is targeted at young adults in their twenties.

In collaboration with Sports Toto Fitness Centre, this exciting 8-week health challenge will have participants in two teams competing for the coveted title. Joining the participants will be Malaysia’s favourite personalities Ke Qing and Fiqrie – they will support and guide their teams.
“In conjunction with KRR’s 20th anniversary, we decided on the theme of Healthy Twenties and this is really apt because we too, believe that young adults who once had an active lifestyle in schooling days should continue to live healthy despite their hectic work schedules. Heath issues are no longer just for the older generation, but for the younger ones as well. In fact, one of the main reasons leading to other health issues is the growing obesity in the young adults, especially when Malaysia has been rated the highest among Asian countries for obesity recently. With this, we hope to instill healthy lifestyle habits, especially among the future leaders of the country,” said Christina Thong, Marketing Manager of Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd.

Throughout the 8-week challenge, Kenny Rogers ROASTERS will be providing participants with meals up to 3 times a week. To ensure participants enjoy the fullest benefits from the diet programme, they will be equipped with a diet plan carefully designed by a consultant dietician that consists of practical food intake recommendations for an average Malaysian by incorporating KRR meals in the plan.
On the other hand, the workout routines will be personalized by Sports Toto Fitness Centre where participants will be required to attend a customized personal training programme at least once a week and a minimum of two group exercise classes every week according to their own schedule at the fitness centre.
“We are glad to be a part of this challenge again. It is always great to see how we can change lives and see results in one’s health goals. We agree that many young adults will take their young and healthy bodies for granted. One must remember that as we age, our muscles and joints will deteriorate in strength and flexibility too. We are pleased that KRR has introduced this theme as a reminder that staying healthy should be a constant habit no matter what the age is. With our dedicated personal instructors and exciting fitness classes ,we believe that we will be able to once again guide the participants to achieve their ideal fitness level and learn to maintain it through the years.,” commented Jonathan Anthony Tan, Club Manager of Sports Toto Fitness Sdn Bhd.
RHW 2014 will commence on 25 September 2014 and the finale will be held on 27 November 2014. Winners will be judged according to the final results of their Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Fat Percentage and Waist-to-Hip ratio in comparison to their numbers at the beginning of the programme. They will also be monitored on their attendance and discipline through the period of the challenge.
Any contestants who are caught cheating in their diet or training programmes will “Head for the Roast” – participants to be involved in additional exercises aside from their existing individual exercise programme. In addition, their performance will be also assessed in a mini-fitness challenge during the finals.

“Being in the music industry for 5 years now, I realize that it is crucial for me to stay fit to ensure I perform and excel in my career, therefore, I’m really looking forward to this campaign as this will allow me to keep track of my diet and fitness routines – aside from having a friendly competition between my team and Fiqrie,” commented 21-year-old Ke Qing, local artiste and singer.
Fiqrie on the other hand who is now in his early 30’s can remember his twenties vividly. “We certainly do take our health for granted when we are young but I have always been taught to live healthily so I am very sure I can convince my team to perform their best and be the winner for this year’s challenge. I dare all those in the twenties to take up this challenge!” said the bubbly radio personality.
