RAMADHAN BUFFET DINNER AT G CAFÉ, G HOTEL PENANG

June 30, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

This Ramadhan, G Café offers tastes of Malay recipes from different parts of Malaysia. Rasa Utara, Selera Pantai Timur and Juadah Selatan are the three main themes for this Ramadhan Buffet dinner. Rasa Utara offers interesting and tasty dishes from the North such as Laksa Kuala Kedah, Nasi Hujan Panas and Kari Kepala Ikan.

As for Selera Pantai Timur, the stars of the line will be Ayam Percik Kelantan, Laksam, Kari Ikan Tongkol and Nasi Dagang. Meanwhile, Juadah Selatan offers delightful Sup Tulang Sum Sum, Briyani Gam, Laksa Johor and Ikan Tenggiri Masak Asam Pedas. If those are not enough, something different for you to chew on is a choice from the Middle East and Peranakan recipe too such as Nasi Chicken Manday, Hokkien Mee and Lamb Kofta. All these lines will be set on different days throughout the whole month of Ramadhan.

Some of the special recommendations by Sous Chef, Chef Harmizi are; Nasi Briyani, Paha Kambing Percik Kasturi Sos, Ikan Keli Masak Kari, Ayam Piru Rendang Seri G, and Ayam Masak Merah.

Chef Harmizi makes the most authentic Sup Tulang Sum Sum, one of the many dishes from Juadah Selatan. Heated in slow boil for approximate two hours, the cooking method allows the mixture of ingredients consisting cinnamon stick, fennel seeds, cumin, and dates to absorb its essence. One must try Chef Harmizi’s Nasi Briyani dish. Smooth and moist in texture, the rice in this dish is marinated overnight in milk and yogurt to soak in the flavour.

For those who crave for a little tang of sweetness and spiciness, try Chef Harmizi’s succulent Ayam Masak Merah. This dish is cooked with onions, ginger, cumin, red chili, fresh tomato, milk, garlic, lemongrass and spices. This dish best goes with Chef’s Nasi Briyani as the flavours from both dishes accompany each other.

The Paha Kambing Percik Kasturi Sos on the other hand is marinated first with lemongrass, shallots, garlic, kerisik, coconut milk, cumin and others before roasting. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the lamb is great to savour with chef’s special condiment – mixture of chili, tomato, onions and garlic.

One of many favourites is the Ikan Keli Masak Kari. This catfish is cooked with coconut milk, turmeric leaf, green chili, galangal, cumin and others. The combination of the ingredients complements the fish very well as it discards the muddy fish taste.  Those who are a fan of spices will be in for a treat with this dish.

The Ayam Piru Rendang Seri G is diner’s uttermost favourite choice. The turkey is cooked with coconut milk, cumin, fennel seeds, red chili, turmeric leaf and others. Chef Harmizi took up learning this dish from his own mother which originated for generations.
