DI WEI CHINESE CUISINE RESTAURANT’S FORTUNE BOWL

January 23, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

Celebrate this Chinese New Year with Poon Choy at Empire Hotel Subang’s Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant from 1st January until 28th February 2014 and enjoy a fabulous gourmet journey. Eating Poon Choy symbolises community spirit and togetherness and all the more reason for everyone to partake for a good year ahead. Poon Choy also known as Big Bowl Feast is a traditional Hakka dish from Hong Kong. It was served in wooden, porcelain or metal basins during the Song Dynasty.

Poon Choy is literally a melting pot of flavours with two layers consisting of meat, vegetables and seafood, all served together in one large pot, soaking in the delicious lotus root and white radish broth. It is also eaten layer by layer instead of mixing everything up. The bottom of the pot features ingredients such as White Fish Ball, Fish Stomach, Steamed Chicken, Mushroom, Prawn, Lotus Root, Radish, Crispy Pork Belly, Chinese Cabbage, Bamboo Pith, Beancurd Stick, Taro, Fish Cake, Shank and Beancurd Skin. The upper portion is covered with Fish Maw, Abalone, Roast Pork Belly, Sha Jeng Oyster, Pork Shank, Japanese Sea Cucumber, Black Moss, Roast Duck, Prawns and Scallop. This makes Poon Choy a very colourful and attractive dish. Relatively dry ingredients such as seafood such as prawns are placed on the top while other ingredients which can absorb the juices, are assigned to the bottom of the pot. This allows juices to flow down to the bottom of the pot to marinate the rest of the ingredients. There are a total of twenty ingredients and because this elaborate dish takes six hours of preparation and three hours to cook it is symbolises wealth and prosperity. Di Wei is offering two sets of Poon Choy menus, Fortune Bowl which features premium ingredients for RM988++ (six people) or RM1688++ (ten people) and Di Wei Treasure Pot for RM428++ (six people) or RM688++ (ten people). One day advance booking is required before you can enjoy this special dish. This is served in a Japanese ceramic pot that can be taken home at the end of the meal.

Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant seats up to 150 diners and offers six private dining rooms. Operation hours are 11am – 3pm and 6pm – 10pm from Monday to Friday. On Saturday, Sunday and public holiday Di Wei Chinese Cuisine Restaurant is open from 10.30am – 3pm and 6pm – 10pm.
