SMASHIES BURGER “SIZZLES” THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON IN CELEBRATION ON THE JOY OF GIVING

December 16, 2013 by StrawberrY Gal

The grill was loaded and the heat was turned up! In the true spirit of Christmas, Smashies Burger recently shared the joy of giving with the local community by hosting a BBQ dinner.

The celebratory event was held together with Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary (formerly known as Sanctuary Care Centre), a local organization for underprivileged, abused neglected or orphaned children. Fifty children from the home joined in the festivities, which involved good food, fun games and activities, which truly made for bundles of contagious laughter.

For about a month leading up to the event, Smashies Burger called on the local community to contribute towards making a difference to the lives of the underprivileged by donating useable apparels, toys, books and stationery into a ‘Charity Bin’ which was placed in the Smashies Burger outlet. The donated items were then divided equally and distributed to charity organizations around the Setapak area.

According to Will Soh, founder and managing director of Smashies Burger, the initiative was held to celebrate Christmas by being thankful for the blessings that are shared by many, while remembering the underprivileged and less fortunate by sharing these blessings with them so that they, too, can experience the joy of the season. He also added that the move was received well by the public.

“When we first came up with the idea for this event, we didn’t expect the response to be as good as it was. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the members of the local communities to donate items for the less fortunate amongst us. If we were to pile up all the donated items, they would be as tall as a Christmas tree! The look of joy on the kids’ faces today is something a million words cannot describe,” said Will Soh.
He also said that Smashies Burger was created to be a community centred establishment that gives back to society. In fact, all Smashies Burger events in the past have in some form or the other involved the local community.

“There’s nothing like seeing people just coming together and having fun. This is what we are all about at Smashies Burger,” added Soh.

More exciting events are being planned for 2014 at Smashies Burger. To find out more about these activities, members of the public can visit the outlet’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/smashiesburger.
