AN AFTERNOON TEA IN 1885, E & O HOTEL

July 16, 2013 By StrawberrY Gal - Invited Review 2 Comments

Named for the year that the E&O Hotel was established, 1885 offers classical yet contemporary cuisine in an elegant environment in the finest traditions of colonial fine dining. The selection of inventive fusion dishes from our accomplished chefs, accompanied by a superb selection of wines, marks 1885 as the perfect choice for an enjoyable dining experience.

Traditional English Afternoon Tea is also served in this elegant setting. Candlelit tables, starched linens, silver service, and attentive staff create a magical experience.’During our stay in the hotel, we had our romantic English Afternoon Tea with the cutie pie together with us. Elegant setting with the beautiful looking of the French windows, overlooking the Straits of Malacca is indeed a great view to go with the delicious petite English Afternoon Tea.

The English Afternoon Tea have a long story behind it

The tradition of afternoon tea was invented by Anna, the seventh Duches of Bedford (1783-1857) one of HM Queen Victoria Ladies in waiting.

In her day’s the upper echelon of English society ate a huge breakfast , very little lunch and a very little late dinner. Every afternoon, the Duchess experienced a “Sinking Feeling”. One afternoon, she instructed her servants to serve tea with little cakes in her boudoir.

The experience was so delightful that Anna repeated every afternoon there after. Soon others followed the Duches lead and in just a few decades the custom of “taking tea” in the afternoon become well established.

At first the practise was limited to the upper echelon of English Society howev, it becomes so popuar that tea shops and tearooms began opening for enjoyment of the general public.

And here we go with the scrumptious delicious afternoon tea at the 1885.

The afternoon tea is filled with delicious finger sandwiches. Here you go with the Roasted Beef,Grain Mustard Mayonnaise on Village Bread, Cucumber with Cream Cheese Dill on White Brown Bread, Chicken Breast, Horseradish Cream on White Bread,Scottish Smoked Salmon, Lemon Butter on Poppy Seed Bread, Egg Mayonnaise Voulevant, Chopped Shallots, Alfafa Sprouts , Soft Cheddar Cheese, Ripe Tomato on Whole Wheat Bread, Lemon Chicken Salad as welll as the Crunchy Celery in Puff Pastry.

Not only that, we are also served with scones as well where they served us with the raisin and plain scones. It is served together with their Homemade Strawberry Jam which is a perfect match with the scone itself. Amazingly delicious and good to grab the taste of it.

Not only that, we are being served with a variety of petite of cake where each cake is not too sweet and the petite size is just lovely. The cakes are sinfully delicious where I am totally indulge with it with every single bites. Amazingly good !

It is being served together with the variety choices of tea as well. I had the Earl Grey tea which is simply refreshing. An extravaganly blended tea with the intensive aroma of the Japanese Wild Cherries is amazingly well made.

Overall, the dining here was superb with the great choice of the afternoon tea. Relaxing place with good food.

Price:RM 58.00/ person.
