ITALIANNIES’ PASSPORT TO ITALY FEATURES GOLDEN DISHES OF MILAN

April 3, 2013 by ivykam

Arriving at the last region in its culinary journey through Italy, casual dining restaurant chain Italiannies uncovers the “golden” culinary specialties of Milan, capital of the Lombardy region, via its Passport to Italy promotion.

If you have ever traveled through Milan, you may have noticed the dominant presence of gold colors used in many of the local restaurants. It is actually a custom in Milan as the Milanos strongly believe that gold is the remedy for illness and promised good health.

Hence, apart from the decorations, most of the Milanese cuisine is also prepared in this fashion with a touch of the cheerful, sunny yellow coloured traditional ingredients like parmesan, butter, orange squash and saffron.

Like most cities in Italy, Milanese cuisine is influenced by its regional food culture – the typical Lombard cuisine, which features rice based dishes such as risotto, as well as butter and cream based cooking.

While Italiannies has always been working to promote the authentic food specialties and culture in Italy, the idea of introducing Passport to Italy promotion is to offer customers the opportunity to savour some of the more traditional cuisines that these different regions of Italy are known for, without having to travel there.

Italiannies Taste of Milan will feature a promotional menu featuring the unique food culture in Milan including its renowned risotto and a variety of sunny “golden” dishes. The promotion will run for two months beginning 15 February 2013 untill 15 April 2013.

The appetizer, Funghi Gratinati con Crema di Polenta (RM22.90), a rich and creamy oven baked porcini and button mushrooms, served on polenta and chopped hazelnuts, drizzled with trifle oil and topped with Parmesan cheese. It was made after order placed; therefore the waiting duration is around 8 minutes, slightly longer than the normal appetizer dishes.

One of the mains, Risotto con Pesce Bianco (RM23.90), a herbs Arborio rice served together with sautéed spinach and chunks of sea bass fish fillet. The rice was around 50% cooked in fish broth, therefore it was less creaminess than other risotto dishes.

One of the mains, Ossobuco d’Agnello (RM52.90), a tender braised lamb shank that served on mashed sweet potatoes, then topped with a fruity gremolata of apples, lemons, oranges, garlic and basil.

One of the mains, Costole di Manzo Glassata (RM49.90), juicy Australian beef short ribs that glazed with honey mustard and slow cooked in oven for about 5 hours till tenderly soft. Served together with creamy mashed potatoes.

The dessert, Crostata di Mele con Crema di Mascarpone (RM16.90), a homemade classic apple pie that served with zesty Mascarpone cream. It did not have the overwhelm cinnamon taste, but towards the natural sweetness from the Fuji apple filling that had more crunchy bite texture.

To add excitement to the campaign, Italiannies will be giving out a total of 8 weekly prizes of Versace perfumes throughout the promotion period. Each of the weekly winners will stand the opportunity to win a trip to Italy for two, to savour more traditional Italian food specialties and culture.

There are two main categories of the contest:

Category 1:

Spend RM50 and above on any a la carte dish and you will receive 1 contest form (eg If you spend RM120, you will receive 2 contest forms)

Category 2:

Order any Passport to Italy main course and you will receive 2 contest forms (eg If your total bill is RM120 and RM40 is for PTI, you will receive 3 contest forms)
