Roku Gin: The Japan’s legendary Suntory

February 2, 2019 by StrawberrY Gal

It is a pleasure being invited by the MC Classic to understand more about Roku Gin. The event is to learn about the Roku Gin which indeed brings me an eye-opening view of the Gin itself.  It is indeed a great event by MC Classic as the whole event are well organized by their team where we learned about the origins, the taste and how to make cocktails as well.

For those who are not aware, MC Classic is one of the leading and largest Wine and Spirit distribution channel in South East Asia. And MC Classic brings you with the  unique array of exciting alcoholic brands, and to create the bridge for many international brands from around the world and penetrating into Malaysia market. And some of the brands under their belt includes Roku Gin, Laphroaig, Hibiki, The Yamazaki, Chita,  Jim Beam, Auchentoshan and many more.

Roku Gin is one of the famous brands from Japan and they are one the first Roku Gin is one of the first gin from Japan’s legendary Suntory – Roku Gin. This expression is made using a selection of botanicals, including six Japanese botanicals.

Roku means ‘six’ in Japanese and refers to the six local, seasonal botanicals which complement eight traditional gin botanicals (juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, etc) and give this spirit a distinctly Japanese character.  The six  botanicals includes the Sakura flower, Sakura leaf, Yuzu peel, Sencha tea (green tea), Gyokuro tea (refined green tea) and Sanshō pepper. And these Six Japanese botanicals cultivated over four seasons, the six Japanese botanicals have been carefully selected to create ROKU, Japan’s authentic craft gin.

Each botanical has been harvested at the peak of its season to extract the best flavour, and distilled to fully embody the blessings of nature.  The harvest of the four seasons has been blended to create ROKU’s balanced flavour. For the eight traditional botanicals are added to create the authentic gin taste like juniper berries, coriander, angelica seed and root, cinnamon, cardamom, bitter orange and lemon peel.

And the design of the bottle itself brings up the beautiful design that reflects the aesthetics of Japan. The six natural Japanese Botanicals are emborsed on the hexagonal bottle that symbolises ROKU ( means “six” in Japanese. The Bottle Label is  printed on the washi paper further highlighting the Japanese craftmanship and sentiment bringing you not just a normal bottle but an artistic one.

And you can have the gin can have them served neat, chilled, or rocks.  And whats more is the Roku Gin brings you with the hint of the Cherry blossom (Sakura), Green Tea, Pepper and Yuzu. Have them filled with flavours of Earl grey, Bitter citrus and  Juniper.

And during the whole workshop we learned to make 3 signature cocktails which is impressively good and nice. Love them so much!

Looking forward for their next workshop where we can learn more about the Roku Gin as well as other brands under their belt.
