September 14, 2017 by StrawberrY Gal

A state which filled will unlimited fun! For those who are a explorer do make a visit to Sarawak as they are filled with loads of interesting activities and you can experience what the local do. And this time around, we had venture to the Central Sarawak where there is Sibu, Sarikei as well as Mukah. Each of the city comes simply beautiful and have loads to venture.

1. Rajang Esplanade and boat trip to Bawang Assan Longhouse.

Learn the culture of Iban  with a tour down to the Bawang Assan Long house. Take a ride by the road or by the boat there where you can find loads of history also experience the life of the Ibans here. The Bawang Assan house is an Iban settlement of 9 longhouses dating from the 18th Century, It is particularly appealing to visitors for two reasons; firstly the longhouses range from the very traditional to the quite modern, so visitors can get a good idea of how longhouses have evolved to keep pace with the times; and secondly, many of the older inhabitants can speak excellent English and are therefore superb interpreters of their culture.  The longhouse also offers overnight stays, with visitors accompanying the locals in their daily activities, such as padi planting and fishing.
 Getting There
To get to Bawang Assan, take a taxi, a van from outside the Sibu Central Market or an express boat or liaise with local travel agent to arrange the whole tour.

2. Sibu Foochow Association

Another attraction of Sibu is to learn about the Foochow here. Witness the how the Foochow people landed in Sarawak. We also learned loads of history of Sibu and Sarawak here.
We had also able to witness some antiques in the Foo Chow association too.

3. Witness how to make Kompiah

Walk along the streets in Sibu and you can find them making kompiah fresh from their oven. Witness how they make kompiah and you will find out the tedious steps of making them from dough to putting them in to the clay oven.
4. Visit the biggest Market in Sibu – The Central Market

It Is a must to walk around the Sibu Central Market. Look how they trades and things available there.  Witness the daily life of the locals and also some exotic food which is being sold in the market.
