THE RITZ-CARLTON, HONG KONG SUPPORTS LOCAL BEEKEEPING BUSINESS

May 20, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong and Bee’s Nest Pure Honey, the only organic bee farm on Hong Kong Island, fuel their mutual love for the finest mono-floral honey to introduce an exciting line-up of gourmet treats and hotel offerings at the world’s highest hotel.

As part of the hotel’s renowned environmental responsibility strategy, known globally as Community Footprints, The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong has adopted a beehive with the hopes of raising awareness of the vital role bees play in our environment as the global bee population faces serious threat of Colony Collapse Disorder. This unique partnership will provide hotel guests the opportunity to enjoy pure honey in gourmet treats and spa treatments with the launch of the Honey Bee Afternoon Tea and Milk and Honey Urban Spa Body Treatment, both launching in June. Guests staying in the hotel also have the opportunity to be taken on an exclusive private tour with one of the founders of Bee’s Nest bee farm to observe honey harvesting and be inspired by the urban farming movement in Hong Kong. For benefits of mono-floral honey and details of this collaboration, please refer to appendix.

Honey Bee Afternoon Tea (June – July)
Guests will be able to savor the very first batch of honey from the hotel’s own beehive at The Lounge & Bar during the months of June and July. Honey is proven to be a healthy alternative to sugar, and Executive Pastry Chef Richard Long has crafted a delightful selection of afternoon tea treats with this nutritious natural sweetener. The Honey Scones spread with raw honey spread and clotted cream are delectable tea-time gourmet treats not to be missed. The rich and tasty chocolate-honey ganache filled in the Longan Flower Honey Praline can definitely melt any heart. Guests can also enjoy warm Bee Sting Cake freshly prepared at the action station. The flavor of Native Ivy Flower Honey Custard adds a local touch to this celebrated German specialty cake created by native German Executive Chef Peter Find. The light and delicate Steamed Milk Custard topped with honey jelly is an interesting twist on a traditional Cantonese dessert. The mild sweetness of honey is a good complement to yoghurt when it comes to salad dressing, making Honey and Yoghurt Seafood Salad Sandwich a refreshing summer favorite. Blue cheese is not for everyone’s taste, but with the clever use of fruity longan honey, the Honey Blue Cheese Tart with Glazed Walnut is sure to please any palate.

Honey and Milk Urban Spa Body Treatment (June 1 onwards)
Known for its anti-oxidant, nourishing and healing properties, honey is often used as a natural moisturizer to soothe stressed or damaged skin. The Ritz-Carlton Spa by ESPA will offer a unique 80-minute Honey and Milk Urban Spa Body Treatment from June 1 onwards. The treatment will begin with a warm milk foot bath to soften the skin and relieve sore feet. To restore a fresh healthy glow to dry, tired skin, the body massage with honey scrub is a perfect remedy.  The therapist will apply Longan Honey Sugar Scrub to remove dead skin cells, revealing soft and smooth skin underneath. The pampering experience is completed with a warm oil body massage to revive the skin to supple and silky perfection. This natural and mild treatment is also a prenatal indulgence for mom-to-bes.

The 80-minute treatment is available from June 1 onwards and is priced at HK$1,750 from Monday to Thursday. A supplement of HK$100 applies from Friday to Sunday and public holidays. The above price is subject to a 10% service charge. For reservations, please contact The Ritz-Carlton Spa by ESPA on (852) 2263 2040 or e-mail: [email protected].
