The Islamic holy month of Ramadhan has arrived once again, and for a truly hearty ‘Iftar’, or berbuka puasa, join us and experience a myriad of tastes in this once-a-year tradition of breaking fast. Offering an endless selection of berbuka favourites including our signature Sup Gearbox, Kambing Panggang, Nasi Beriyani Gam, Satay and more, bring your family and friends over and be spoilt for choice at our bazaar-style setting while watching our chefs in action! Available from 30 June until 27 July 2014, the ‘Aneka Selera Ramadhan’ Promotion is priced at RM88.00++ per person (adult) and RM44.00++ (child).
This year’s berbuka puasa concept will see various stalls, not unlike hawker style, stationed around the buffet area and resembling a bazaar. Each stall features a specialty item and the food will be freshly made to order and cooked on the spot. From the Gerai Roti Mamak there will be Murtabak Ayam dan Daging, Roti Telur, Roti Sardin dan Roti Paratha, served with various curry and dhall. Fans of roasted lamb will not want to miss the Gerai Kambing Panggang. Whole lamb, imported from New Zealand, are marinated and roasted to perfection, accompanied by a selection of sauces.
The signature Gerai Sup Gearbox will not disappoint. Sunway Putra Hotel’s version of this rich and flavourful broth has a mélange of ingredients, herbs and spices and is cooked for half a day to achieve its desired result, aroma and taste. Served with crispy fried onions, daun sup and spicy kicap cili, a bowl of Sup Gearbox is an experience by itself.
Meanwhile do make a beeline to the Gerai Satay, where tender chicken and beef skewers are served with nasi himpit, onions, cucumber and the delish kuah kacang. Do drop by Gerai Keropok Lekor dan Popiah Basah. The famous fish cracker from the East Coast is available in crispy and chewy variety, while diners may choose the condiments for their very own popiah basah.
Lovers of seafood will enjoy the offerings from Gerai Makanan Laut Bakar. Fresh seafood, comprising ikan pari, cencaru, terubuk, sotong and more, are marinated with herbs and spices and grilled with banana leaves. A variety of dips, such as kicap bawang cili padi, air asam and Thai sauce make great accompaniments to the freshly grilled seafood.
Another stall which is a must-try is the Gerai Nasi Beryani Gam. Special long-grain rice, cooked in a variety of spices, is accompanied by side dishes, condiments and curries. There is also Gerai Celup-Celup, where diners help themselves cooking skewers of meat, seafood, egg and noodles in clear or tom yam broth. Very satisfying indeed…
From the buffet line, take your pick from over 100 scrumptious dishes ranging from appetizers, ulam-ulam and salads, soups, main courses and not forgetting yummy desserts. Among the recommended must-try is the Pasembur with Peanut Sauce, Tauhu Bakar, Grilled Otak-Otak, Daging Rendang Tok, Rendang Minang, Ayam Percik, Udang Harimau Masak Lemak Cili Api, Kacang Botol Goreng Sambal and Bubur Lambuk.
Be bowled over at the Gerai Aneka Mee with an assortment of noodles specialties, such as Mee Rebus, Mee Kari, Mee Celup, Laksa Kedah, Laksa Johor, Assam Laksa, Kuey Teow Sup, Laksa Lemak and more. These will be rotated on daily basis for diners’ enjoyment.
“We decided to feature more on traditional favourites as most of the items above are popular fare that our guests enjoy during their berbuka puasa with us every year. For the specialties, I would recommend the Nasi Beriyani Gam with all its accompanying condiments, while not forgetting the Sup Gearbox. The Roasted Lamb is another popular must-try. Sometimes on a busy day, three whole lambs are used,” explains Chef Samsuddin Ahmad, Sunway Putra Hotel’s Executive Sous Chef.
“A total of seven different menus will be rotated throughout the fasting month, offering a diverse variety of dishes to suit all palates. Diners are encouraged to sample all the action stalls. Indeed, with such a wide selection, it is not unusual for some of our regular guests who would drop by for berbuka puasa with either their family or friends every week”, added Chef Samsuddin, who further explains that Ramadan is one of the busiest mealtime periods for the hotel.
End the meal with one of these fabulous desserts – Pulut Cendol, assorted jellies, cakes and pastries, ice creams, Chocolate Fountain, Bread & Dates Butter Pudding with Vanilla Sauce, Tau Foo Fah and Aneka Kuih-Muih Melayu. A selection of mouthwatering buburs will also be available, such as Bubur Jagung with Sago, Pengat Pisang, Bubur Kacang Hijau Durian, Bubur Cha-Cha, Bubur Pulut Hitam and Bubur Gandum.
For the convenience of Muslim guests, the hotel also provides Surau for prayers.
SAHUR
For the convenience of guests, Sahur is available daily from 4.00 am to Imsak at RM45.00++ per person. The menus will be rotated daily and will feature lighter and healthier foods to sustain oneself for the fast ahead.
