GRAMMY-NOMINATED STEPHEN BISHOP TOURS MALAYSIA

July 9, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

Legendary singer-songwriter, Stephen Bishop, will be performing at Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur and Melaka on 3 and 4 August 2014 respectively, as part of his Asia tour. The 63-year-old singer will be performing his mega hit-songs including his classical hit ‘On and On’, ‘Something New In My Life’, ‘Never Letting Go’ and ‘It Might Be You’ from the Tootsie movie soundtrack.

“Hard Rock Cafe gathers the best local and international musicians in our quest to bring the best music to our customers. Everyone can indulge themselves in a world-class environment at our café,” said Roberto Pettinau, General Manager of Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur.

Having mastered both piano and trombone at a young age, Stephen received an electric guitar from his elder brother as a gift, which launched his career as a highly popular songwriter of U.S. pop at the age of 14. In 1967, he formed his first group ‘The Weeds’, recording some Beatles-inspired demos in Los Angeles, and won first runner-up at the Claremont Battle of the Bands. Grammy Award winner, Art Garfunkel, heard some of Stephen’s composition and selected two songs for his Gold recording album ‘Breakaway’. Shortly thereafter, Stephen was signed to ABC Records and released his first album ‘Careless’ in 1976, with two major hits including ‘Save It For a Rainy Day’ and the U.S. Billboard’s Hot Top 100 hit ‘On and On’, which peaked at the 11th spot.

Since Stephen’s inception into the music scene, his songs have been sung by artists such as Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Barbra Streisand, Steve Perry, Stephanie Mills, Kenny Loggins, Johnny Mathis, Phoebe Snow, David Crosby, The Four Tops and Pavarotti. His songs have also been featured in various films including ‘Dream Girl’ in National Lampoon’s Animal House, ‘Your Precious Love’ in Roadie, ‘It Might Be You’ in Tootsie, and the Oscar nominated song ‘Separate Lives’ in White Nights.

“Stephen is one of the legendary artists we grew up with. His life’s ideology to provide quality music has been an inspiration to many of us. Hard Rock also lives with the same ideology, by providing quality services. Having Stephen performing at Hard Rock Cafe Melaka will greatly increase the quality of entertainment in Melaka,” said Anderson K. Selva, General Manager of Hard Rock Cafe Melaka.

Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur and Melaka have organized various events in the past such as Hard Rock Rising – Global Battle of the Bands, which provided an opportunity for up-and-coming Malaysian talents on an international stage. The cafés have also hosted many local and international artists, including local indie band Bunkface, rock star Faizal Tahir, Malaysia’s Queen of Rock Ella, the legendary Ramli Sarip, and Grammy Award winner Dan Hill.

Tickets for Stephen Bishop’s showcase are priced at RM60 per person for Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur; whilst table reservation price ranges between RM60 to RM80 per person for Hard Rock Cafe Melaka.

Since Hard Rock Cafe’s establishment in 1971, the company has been dedicated to providing high quality food, beverage and services to fulfill their customers’ needs. Hard Rock Cafe Kuala Lumpur and Melaka are committed to providing internationally recognised service standards, in line with the company’s motto, “Love All, Serve All”.
