Best Side Hustles for Traveling

April 17, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

Traveling is one of the best ways to learn about the world and yourself. It can be profoundly enriching and offer so much to those visiting other places around the globe. However, even if you are planning to travel on a budget, it can get expensive going on those big trips. Accommodation, flights, and those daily budgets, not to mention special tickets to attractions all over the world, can add up a lot. Even if you have managed to save up some cash to fund most of this, side hustles can be a great way for travelers to get their hands on some extra cash to fuel their adventures without dipping into their savings. So, whether you are hopping on chicken buses across Guatemala or island hopping in the Philippines, here are some great ideas for side hustles that allow you to make money on the move.

iGaming

Learning and mastering online gambling can be a great way to get some hard-earned wins to bolster your bank account while traveling. Following the explosion of the online gambling industry in recent years, gambling on the road has never been so easy. Widespread access, fun promotions, and simple games can allow anyone, anywhere, a chance at taking home winnings. Lists such as Malaysia’s best casinos, written by Andreea Stanescu, can provide valuable information for the best chance of winning at blackjack, poker, or roulette.

Freelance writing

If you know how to use words well, then getting involved in the freelance writing industry can be a good side hustle. Crafting blog posts, web content, product descriptions and ratings, and articles can all be beneficial in expanding your freelance portfolio to establish yourself as a freelance writer on the road. All you need is a laptop and Wi-Fi, allowing travelers access at any time from anywhere in the world. Sites such as UpWork, Freelancer, or Fiverr can be brilliant places to start this journey.

Virtual Assistant Work

Many large companies are now hiring remote workers for customer support or virtual assistant tasks. Tasks can include answering emails, managing schedules, or social media posting. This can be easy yet rewarding work with the pay ranging from $10-$30 an hour, depending on experience, and can offer a flexible and simple way to add some extra money to your bank account.

Teaching English as a Foreign Language Online

Having long been a moneymaking method for travellers around the globe, and has been a gateway to traveling for many over the years. Teaching English is a classic way for travelers to fund their adventures and continues to be made accessible in the digital age. Platforms such as VIPKid and Preply allow you to teach English from anywhere in the world. Some require official certificates such as TEFL, but other platforms don’t. If you are a people person and fluent in English, this can be a steady and reliable way to source income for your big trip.

Tour Guiding or Local Experiences

If you are residing in a place for a while, then getting involved in hosting a walking tour or taking other travelers on local experiences is a unique way to earn some money when in other countries. Major websites now offer experiences that allow individuals to host tours, cooking classes, and cultural workshops for travellers in the area. It can be a great way to meet people, pass on knowledge, and earn some extra cash doing something you enjoy.
