Hokkaido Gantestu Ramen @ 1 Utama

June 16, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Calling all ramen lovers, Gantetsu Ramen from Hokkaido Japan is the perfect place for you. And after the closing down of the Isetan @ 1 Utama, they had moved over to the LG of 1 Utama, providing ramen enthusiasts with an even more convenient location to get their fix of delicious Hokkaido-style ramen. Located behind KFC, one can spot them easily as they are located at the same row as Lax Lax, Wha Rong and many more.

Entering the space, I was immediately greeted by lots of wood elements in the decor, which made the ambience so cosy and inviting. The setting is well-lit, with a minimalist and modern Japanese interior design, making for a comfortable and relaxing dining experience.

For those who are not aware, Gantetsu specializes in Hokkaido-style ramen, which is different from the more common Tokyo-style ramen. Hokkaido ramen is known for its creamy, rich and savory soup base, typically made with pork bones and soy sauce or miso paste. Expect signatures such as Miso Ramen with Butter and Corn (two famous Hokkaido specialties) and Chashu Tonkotsu (ramen with a pork bone broth base) on the menu.

Hokkaido Tonkotsu Black Garlic

One of the standout dishes that we tried was their Hokkaido Tonkotsu Black Garlic. This dish comes highly recommended by their staff, and we quickly understood why. The pork bone broth is simmered to perfection, resulting in a rich and flavorful soup that is enhanced by the addition of black garlic. The noodles are cooked al-dente, and the char siew is exceptionally tender and juicy. Every slurp is a delight for the taste buds, and we couldn’t get enough of it.

Hokkaido Miso Ramen

We also tried the Hokkaido Miso Ramen, which was equally impressive. The ramen noodles were perfectly cooked, and the miso paste was not overpowering. The soup had a good balance of umami flavors, and the char siew was again very tender and juicy. Overall, it was a satisfying bowl of ramen that we thoroughly enjoyed. Besides the ramen, Gantetsu also offers other dishes such as Gyoza, Chahan, and Karaage

Overall, Gantetsu Ramen is definitely worth a visit for any ramen lover. The restaurant’s focus on Hokkaido-style ramen, the cozy ambience, and the friendly service make it a great dining destination. If you’re in the area and craving a satisfying bowl of ramen, Gantetsu Ramen is the place to be.
