HUAT-AH-CULAR LION DANCE PERFORMANCE AT ONE WORLD HOTEL PETALING JAYA

February 8, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

A lion dance show roars back into action to usher in the year with all things good and auspicious at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya today. Hotel guests and associates witnessed a splendid lion dance performance by the award-winning Khuan Loke Dragon and Lion Dance Association troupe in conjunction with the Year of the Water Tiger.

Two gold lions captivated the audience with their immaculate coordination as well as showcasing acrobatic stunts and moves on high stilt, accompanied by percussion instruments; deafening clash of cymbals, rhythmic pounding of drums and thunderous beat of gongs which is believed to ward off evil spirits during the Lunar New Year.

In keeping with the hotel’s annual tradition, the charming lions pranced, leaped and danced as they made their ritual blessings way around the hotel’s administration offices, restaurants, function rooms and the reception area in the lobby prior to the highlight of the agenda, the finale performance at the hotel lobby driveway followed by lighting up two 8-feet firecrackers display. The performance concluded with the presentation of ‘platter of prosperity’ consisting mandarin oranges, raw bananas, pineapple, pomelo and green lettuce as a symbol of fortune and good luck for the Hotel to the family’s matriarch, YBhg Puan Sri To’ Puan Cheng Gek Hong together with the directors, YBhg Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok and YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Teo Chiang Liang. Also present to witness the event were the general manager, Mr Alvin Koh joined by fellow Head of Departments and associates of the hotel as well as hotel guests.

“We are thrilled to have our lion dance performance back again this year … with SOPs in place of course, after almost two years of muted celebrations. The most-anticipated energetic lion dance show is part of our yearly initiatives and customarily performed on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. It is also serves as a platform to foster closer relationship with our guests and staff. Without this ritual, the celebrations just seem incomplete,” said Mr Alvin Koh, the general manager.
