Since 1977, Royal Plaza on Scotts has sported a face that is familiar to many. Mr Syed Kadir Bin Syed Hameed, Doorman, has been greeting guests upon arrival and bidding them goodbye when they leave since joining the hotel on 5 May 1977.
Over the years, the 63-year-old has gone through 12 uniform design changes as a Doorman at Royal Plaza on Scotts and has become an icon at the hotel as the first and last points of contact for guests. A familiar face to many returning guests, Syed is on a first-name basis with some and endearingly known as “Uncle Syed” by the younger guests who have known him since they were children.
“Many of them feel like long-time friends rather than guests. It is an honour to be a familiar face of Singapore to the guests when they return,” he said.
Syed is a repeat recipient of the hotel’s At Your S.E.R.V.I.C.E recognition programme, which recognises individuals who have delivered exceptional service standards while displaying the hotel’s brand values Seamless, Empowered, Refreshing, Versatile, Individualised, Charming and Emotional. Syed has received thousands of compliments from guests to date, for his welcoming demeanor and engaging chats.
To celebrate Syed’s joyous occasion, 30 of his family members will be joining him for a celebratory photo shoot on Saturday, 5 August 2017 at 3pm, at Royal Plaza on Scotts’ entrance, to mark his career’s milestone.
