‘WE’VE BEEN INSPIRED’ MANDARIN ORIENTAL HYDE PARK, LONDON REVEALS NEW RECEPTION AND LOBBY AREA

May 11, 2017 by StrawberrY Gal

pound restoration with a new reception and lobby lounge.

Internationally renowned designer, Joyce Wang, has been commissioned to oversee the overall design concept, and has sought inspiration from the natural beauty of Hyde Park throughout the property. Inspired by the hotel’s peaceful park side location coupled with its royal heritage, Joyce has also been influenced by the glamour of the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel.

Two striking glass chandeliers that represent different stages of an opening flower illuminate the new reception areas.  Elegant, acorn-inspired lights, carpets reminiscent of fallen leaves and bark effect wall coverings are all part of the new reception area.  Ensuring exquisite design and craftsmanship, Joyce Wang worked closely with artisans to create bespoke pieces from hand-etched mirrors, to unique pieces of art that decorate the area. A striking polished aluminium sculpture by Fredrikson Stallard dominates the reception area, while exquisite blown glass pieces by San Min Lee featuring Chinese pottery from the Ch’ing Dynasty, hang on either side of the newly created lobby lounge.

As the renovation continues, the hotel will reveal the new design for all 181 guestrooms and suites, with the Knightsbridge facing accommodation available from Summer 2017.  All guestrooms and suites will be more luxurious and comfortable than ever before, encompassing details inspired by the building’s Edwardian heritage and the natural beauty of Hyde Park. Art deco inspired features including carefully curated artworks and custom-designed furniture, will result in a warm and inviting environment.

In the second phase of the renovation, two new luxurious penthouse suites will be created, with private terraces and extensive park views.  Esteemed New York designer Adam D. Tihany has been appointed to oversee an inspirational and uplifting renovation of The Spa at Mandarin Oriental London, as well as a light refurbishment of the hotel’s popular restaurants and bar.  The hotel remains open throughout the renovation.
