EXOTIC LOCATIONS ON A BUDGET

March 16, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Traveling can be a pricey affair. In today’s uncertain economic climate, it’s easy to see why many have put their travel plans on hold. However, everyone deserves a getaway and seeing the world does not necessarily have to cost the world either. Hotels.com has selected some of its top exotic locations that make for great holidays but are also easy on the wallet. Book your accommodation on Hotels.com and get a free night when you’ve accumulated 10 nights via Hotels.com Rewards.

With its pristine beaches and relaxed island vibe, it’s no wonder the Indian state of Goa has long been a firm favorite among travelers. While Goa is slowly building its reputation as a luxury getaway, it still offers a range of activities that won’t brake the bank. Though famed for its stunning beaches, this former Portuguese colony is a must-see for history buffs. Just east of Panaji, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Goa certainly take visitors back in time and gives a sense of what life was like in the former principal city of the Portuguese eastern empire. For more architecture heritage and culture, take a leisurely stroll along the old Latin Quarter of Fontainhas. After a long day of exploring, unwind and relax along the tranquil shores of Candolim Beach. With a user rating of 4.8 out of 5 and with rooms starting from as low ar RM 208 a night, the La Maison Fontainhas, Panaji gets our recommendation.

If you’re looking for an exotic destination a little closer to home, look no further than Luang Prabang in northern Laos. Set 700 meters above sea level and at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong River, this UNESCO World Heritage City also offers plenty of things to do. Spend a day visiting some of the city’s 32 shimmering temples, most notably Vat Vixoun, Vat Xieng Thong and Vat Sene. For the more adventurous, take a hike up Mount Phousi to soak in panoramic views of the city. The city’s markets are home to some of the best local gastronomic experiences in Luang Prabang and is good value for money. Tuck into an authentic Larb salad and some delicious coconut hot cakes fresh from the griddle. The Le Bel Air Boutique Resort and Villa gets our pick as it not only received a 4.6 out of 5-star guest rating, rooms start from as little as RM307 a night. No wonder it’s loved by guests!

Last on the list is the island province of Cebu in the Philippines. Pegged as the entrée-sized Manila, Cebu City is everything you’d expect from a bustling metropolis. Cebu has a rich history that’s well documented in several museums such as the Museo Sugbo. For the night owl, the district of Lahug truly comes to live at night with bars and clubs to suit every taste and budget. For accommodation, we chose the MJ Hotel & Suites, Cebu as it’s not only in the heart as Cebu, room prices start from as low as RM180 per night. It’s easy to see why this hotel received a 4.2 out of 5 guest star rating.

So what are you waiting for? Start planning your holiday and book your accommodation through Hotels.com via its mobile application and earn loyalty points while on holiday.
