HONG KONG’S ROMANTIC WINTER FANTASIES

November 6, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

With its spectacular skyline and world-famous harbour, Hong Kong provides the perfect backdrop for lovebirds, with many romantic events in the 2015 Hong Kong WinterFest.

Start off your romantic journey at the “Sparkling BVLGARI Roman Holiday” in Statue Square.  The Hong Kong Tourism Board in conjunction with BVLGARI, will light up Central with a large, jewellery-inspired “Serpenti” light-art installation. Fifty thousand LED lights, designed to look like embedded precious gems, create the effect of a scaled serpent’s body in a centerpiece that took six months to build and two months to install. For a small donation, you and your romantic partner can profess your eternal devotion in a wishing card, which is then hung on an enchanting Christmas tree, as well as enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate in Hong Kong’s comfortably cool winter.  Don’t forget to purchase a pack of colourful Confessti, the finest Italian candies, to celebrate your extraordinary Christmas.  All proceeds go to Save the Children Hong Kong.

Just a five-minute walk from Statue Square is the Observation Wheel. Here you can enjoy a 15-minute ride in a luxury gondola to a height of 60 metres, with unobstructed views of the iconic Victoria Harbour, lined on both sides with skyscrapers decorated with glittering Christmas lights.

Just a stone’s throw away is Hong Kong’s most romantic ride – the Star Ferry – and another astonishing opportunity to enjoy the sweeping views of Hong Kong’s unique skyline. Named by National Geographic Traveler one of the “Fifty Places of a Lifetime”, this 127-year-old icon is the perfect combination of history and romance, providing an unforgettable shared memory. If you can take the Star Ferry at night, consider combining it with a middle-of-the-harbour view of the Symphony of Lights show. At the stroke of 8pm, 44 buildings around the harbour erupt in colored lights, laser beams and searchlights, performing a unique, synchronized 13-minute display set to music and commentary.

Next to the Star Ferry Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui is the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, where the Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show will take place, a truly whimsical experience in the form of a spectacular eight-minute extravaganza with exciting audiovisual effects. You can go behind the scenes to Santa’s “back office”, where his elf helpers go through piles of letters addressed to him to assist him in orchestrating the perfect Christmas in Hong Kong and helping to spread the holiday spirit.
Only a five-minute walk from there is 1881 Heritage, the former headquarters of the Hong Kong Marine Police, which combines Victorian-era architecture with contemporary pursuits. This Christmas, its Grand Piazza will be transformed into a 13-metre-high gothic cathedral-like ice palace, where you can hold hands with your lover and experience the magical wonderland as you glide on the majestic ice-skating rink.

If you happen to be in Hong Kong on New Year’s Eve, don’t miss the party atmosphere that will take over the entire city as throngs of cheering revelers take part in the exciting countdown celebrations to welcome the New Year. As the clock ticks down to midnight, heart-pounding pyrotechnics will light up the sky over Hong Kong, exploding in a radiant shower of lights to illuminate the beautiful harbour. Join in the fun and bring in the New Year with all the glamour, excitement and romance of a spectacular Hong Kong celebration!
