SPICE THINGS UP WITH NOVOTEL KL’S VERSION OF BANANA LEAF RICE!

August 14, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

Mention banana leaf rice and one’s mouth starts watering at the thought of exotic curries and rich flavors. Take a break from the keyboard and treat yourself to Novotel KL new variety of banana leaf rice – Nasi Dagang, Nasi Briyani and Nasi Kerabu – in the comfort of a downtown hotel.
Nasi Dagang is a traditional meal originating from Terengganu and Kelantan which literally means “Trading Rice”. The lightly steamed soft white and brown rice is made fragrant with a dash of santan (coconut milk) which is also blended in a conconction of herbs and spices such as lemongrass, fenugreek, and finely chopped shallots. Dig into the flavorful ikan Tongkol curry (tuna fish) sauce, boiled eggs and pineapple pickles for a satisfying meal.
Also originating from Kelantan as a breakfast meal, Nasi Kerabu’s distinct feature is obviously the vibrant rice that is naturally dyed blue from bunga telang (Blue Pea Flower) essence. The rice is topped with a mix of grated coconut flakes, aromatic bunga kantan (Torch Ginger Flower) and is accompanied by salted egg, salted fish and eaten by ayam percik, fried chicken marinated in a tantalizing thick gravy.
The popular Nasi Briyani (meaning ‘fried’ or ‘roasted’) whose ‘secret recipes’ was historically brought to Southeast Asia by Iranian merchants is a secret no more. Savor this wholesome rice-based dish served with tangy pickled fruits, mutton briyani and crispy papadom crackers that is truly addictive.
Nasi Dagang, Nasi Briyani and Nasi Kerabu is priced at RM25nett per person inclusive one refill of non-alcoholic beverage and available from August until December 2015.
