Slurrp Sea Park: A Taste of Kuching in the Heart of Petaling Jaya

August 27, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

There are some meals that instantly transport you to another place. No flight ticket, no long itinerary, no airport rush — just one bowl of noodles, one spoonful of broth, and suddenly you are reminded of the flavours of a city far away.

That is exactly the charm of Slurrp in Sea Park, Petaling Jaya. For those craving an authentic taste of Kuching, this cosy neighbourhood spot brings the comforting flavours of Sarawak to the Klang Valley with dishes that are rich in tradition, texture and soul.

Slurrp is the kind of place that feels casual and approachable, yet the food carries a strong sense of identity. It is not trying to over-modernise East Malaysian cuisine. Instead, it celebrates the dishes the way they should be enjoyed — hearty, flavourful and deeply satisfying.

One of the must-try dishes here is the Classic White Kolo Mee, a Kuching favourite that immediately stands out with its springy, curly noodles. The noodles are tossed in fragrant pork lard, giving every strand a glossy, savoury coating that is simple but incredibly addictive. What makes a good kolo mee special is the texture, and here, the noodles deliver that satisfying “QQ” bite — firm, bouncy and full of character.

For many Sarawak food lovers, Sarawak Laksa is a dish that must be done right. At Slurrp, the Classic Sarawak Laksa brings together a beautiful balance of spice, aroma and creaminess. The broth has that deep, rust-hued colour, carrying the richness of sambal spices with the smoothness of coconut milk. It is robust without being overwhelming, creamy without feeling too heavy, and comforting from the very first spoonful.

Another dish worth ordering is the Manicai Mee Hoon, a wonderfully fragrant plate of wok-fried rice vermicelli. The mee hoon is fried with strong wok hei, dried shrimp, egg and plenty of mani cai, also known as sweet leaf. This native Sarawakian ingredient gives the dish its distinctive flavour and texture — slightly earthy, savoury and pleasantly crunchy. Every bite is aromatic, comforting and full of old-school charm.

The Sio Bee is another highlight for those who enjoy Sarawak-style dim sum. Sarawak’s version of siew mai has its own personality, with a denser and more satisfying pork filling. The bite is firm, juicy and well-seasoned, making it a perfect side dish to enjoy alongside the noodles or laksa. It is simple, nostalgic and deeply comforting.

To end the meal on a refreshing note, the Matterhorn is a must. This towering shaved ice dessert is loaded with cendol, grass jelly, pineapple, lychee, longan and a bright squeeze of fresh lemon. It is colourful, cooling and playful, with the lemon adding a sharp citrusy lift that helps cleanse the palate after the richer dishes. For Malaysia’s weather, this is exactly the kind of dessert you want after a satisfying noodle feast.

The drinks are also worth mentioning. The 3 Layer Tea is rich and aromatic, layered beautifully with deep palm sugar flavours that make every sip indulgent. For something lighter and more refreshing, the Wheatgrass Drink is a lovely option, offering a clean and cooling contrast to the savoury dishes.

What makes Slurrp special is not just the food, but the feeling behind it. The dishes carry a sense of place. From the fragrant pork lard in the kolo mee to the spiced coconut broth of the Sarawak laksa and the wok hei in the manicai mee hoon, every item feels rooted in East Malaysian comfort food culture.

For those who grew up with these flavours, Slurrp feels familiar and nostalgic. For those discovering Kuching cuisine for the first time, it is a delicious introduction to a food culture that is bold, comforting and full of personality.

Overall, Slurrp in Sea Park is a great spot for anyone looking for a genuine East Malaysian food fix in Petaling Jaya. Whether you are there for the kolo mee, Sarawak laksa, manicai mee hoon, sio bee or the refreshing Matterhorn, the experience is satisfying from start to finish.

If you are craving the taste of Kuching without leaving the Klang Valley, Slurrp is definitely a place worth visiting.
