Cacao Reimagined, Michael John, World Class Bartender Takes Over Cacao for Two Nights

April 13, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

This 13 and 14 April, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Cacao Mixology & Chocolate at Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur welcomes a rare and distinguished presence behind the bar. For two nights only, 2025 World Class Bartender Michael John and ranked No. 8 globally takes over the intimate space, bringing with him a globally honed perspective on mixology where precision, balance, and culinary sensibility converge.

With over eighteen years of experience across some of the world’s most progressive bar programmes, Michael John Straatman is recognised as the Northern Europe World Class Bartender 2025, and ranked among the Top 10 globally. He is known for his clear and uncompromising approach to flavour, his work is defined by a balance of creativity and restraint where bold, thoughtful ingredient pairings meet precise execution, and every cocktail tells a story.

Elevated above the city, Cacao becomes a theatre of taste for “The World Class Bar Takeover”, an immersive two-night showcase that transforms cocktails into a celebration of craft, precision, and flavour. More than a menu, the experience is a fleeting encounter with mixology as an art form where every pour, every note, and every finish is intentionally composed to create moments that linger well beyond the glass. Approaching the bar with a chef’s sensibility, Michael John treats each creation as a carefully orchestrated composition, where flavour is distilled to its essence and every element has its place.

Across the span of two-nights, guests will experience a menu that features four cocktails Plums, Kalamansi, Melon, and Guava each composed with a distinct combination of spirits and ingredients, including Johnnie Walker Black, Don Julio Reposado, and Zacapa 23. Set on the highest levels of the city, Cacao offers an intimate setting for this limited engagement, marking a rare opportunity to experience Michael John’s work in Kuala Lumpur.
