YEN x FIFTY TALES A GASTRONOMIC JOURNEY OF HERITAGE & CRAFT

March 16, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

YEN at W Kuala Lumpur partners with homegrown Malaysian Chinese noodle icon Fifty Tales for an exclusive, limited-time dining collaboration that celebrates Chinese cuisine as both heritage and creative playground.

Taking place 26–27 March 2026, the YEN x Fifty Tales experience presents a curated à la carte selection alongside a collaboration-exclusive six-course tasting menu, bringing together two distinctive culinary voices that honour traditional Chinese foundations while embracing contemporary expression.

Built on a shared belief that tradition thrives through evolution, the collaboration creates a vibrant culinary dialogue where time-honoured techniques meet modern interpretation. Familiar flavours are thoughtfully reimagined, offering diners a fresh perspective on the richness of Chinese gastronomy.

A Meeting of Craft and Contemporary Vision

At the heart of the collaboration is Executive Chinese Chef Tan Kim Weng of YEN, whose culinary philosophy blends classical Cantonese techniques with refined modern execution.

Under Chef Weng’s guidance, the menu reflects YEN’s commitment to precision, balance and depth, highlighting sustainably sourced local ingredients while preserving the essence of traditional Cantonese cuisine.

Each dish is crafted with restraint yet expression — familiar flavours elevated through thoughtful innovation.

Equally central to Chef Weng’s vision is his dedication to mentoring the next generation of culinary talent. By creating opportunities for collaboration with young chefs and artisans, he aims to ensure that Chinese culinary traditions remain vibrant and relevant.

“Preserving tradition does not mean keeping it static,” explains Chef Weng. “It means allowing it to grow through dialogue, mentorship and new perspectives.”

Collaboration as a Catalyst for Creativity

For Volker Burth, General Manager of W Kuala Lumpur, chef collaborations are an essential part of keeping the dining experience dynamic and forward-thinking.

“At YEN, chef collaborations are deeply important to us,” he says. “They allow our culinary team to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and evolve while remaining rooted in the discipline of Cantonese cuisine.”

“In today’s dining landscape, collaboration represents a spirit of openness where chefs share creativity and push boundaries together. Our partnership with Fifty Tales reflects that philosophy — offering diners an experience shaped by dialogue, craftsmanship and innovation.”

Signature Dishes from Two Culinary Worlds

The menu highlights the strengths of both kitchens, showcasing signature dishes that bridge heritage and modern interpretation.

Among the highlights are:

YEN’s Golden Duck, a refined two-course presentation celebrating the artistry of Cantonese roasting techniques

Fifty Tales’ Signature Kulim Roasted Chicken, a dish rooted in nostalgic Malaysian Chinese flavours

For dinner, diners can also experience a six-course tasting menu created exclusively for the collaboration, carefully designed to spotlight the culinary philosophies of both restaurants.

Each course unfolds as a narrative — connecting past and present through technique, flavour and storytelling.

A Dining Experience Above the Kuala Lumpur Skyline

Set within YEN’s elegant contemporary interiors at W Kuala Lumpur, the collaboration offers a stunning backdrop overlooking the city skyline.

Here, diners are invited to rediscover Chinese cuisine not as a static tradition, but as a living, evolving craft shaped by each generation of chefs and storytellers.

The YEN x Fifty Tales collaboration will be available for lunch and dinner from 26–27 March 2026 only, making it a rare opportunity to experience two culinary philosophies coming together in one distinctive dining journey.
